pacer 3,176 #1 Posted August 7, 2017 I have a "1975 Dealers Sales Manual" covering, I guess, EVERYTHING that Wheel Horse was offering---- its over an inch thick and is crammed with ALL the accessories, attachments, etc offered that year, and there is a LOT of them. There was a dealer in a small town south of here that passed away and the son came in to try an clear everything up. Groundhog and I made 3-4 trips there hauling off jewels to junk. There was about 8-10 of these manuals in a falling down shed and we hauled them off, 2-3 were in BAD condition, had been in the rain. I made a copy the "Confidential Dealer Price List" pages listing all the tractors with the different ways they were fitted out - tires, PTO, 3 point, etc. This is quite an eye opener!!
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,272 #2 Posted August 7, 2017 Odd there were 4 models of C-120 8-Speed's in 1975 and none of them made the list. Garry

pacer 3,176 #5 Posted August 8, 2017 This took place a couple years ago (I just got around to really looking at the Dealer manual) and my memory is a bit foggy but .... Actually there wasnt any "real" gems - Along the back side of a large pole barn almost covered in weeds/vines were about 12-14 horses (I seem to recall they were all C models?) I ended up buying - I think - 6 of them at $50-100 (several were just too far gone) Gerry (groundhog) bought a LOT of parts ( there were about 10-12 decks and I think he may have got all of them for parts, they were pretty badly rusted) My "thrill" in fooling with these horses is taking one of these neglected/forgotten tractors and stripping them down and coming back up with every thing (possible) repaired and painted. Usually when that is accomplished I sell them and that was the fate of the ones here - and, usually at a fair loss!!

Speaking of which in looking at your pic dealer net and MSRP on a lot of models aren't that far off meaning their wasn't much of a margin on them so a dealer had to move quite a few of them to keep the llights on and the door open not to mention a dealer having to pay the help & put braces on his kids teeth. Interesting piece of history...thanks for sharing!
tunahead72 2,519 #7 Posted August 8, 2017 Actually, the great majority of the tractors in the list show a 33% dealer markup. The rest (the bottom 5 in the list, the least expensive units) show a 25% or (mostly) 28% markup. That seems reasonably consistent to me, but Jim's point is well taken that these guys didn't making a fortune selling tractors unless (maybe) they sold a LOT of them. I'm curious about the C-120 8-speeds that Garry mentioned -- does anybody know why they don't show up in this list?
