henryhpsd 127 #1 Posted July 16, 2017 (edited) Hello all, Since a while if gathered enthusiasme for law mowers, in general.. ....untill.. i saw.. wheel horse... ( no futher explination needed i recon hihi) Would love to set my goal at one of that oldtimers.. but need a "work horse" atm im leaning to a 316-8 in very good shape.. 16hp onan engine.. roughly he is asking a 1000 euros for it. Would that be a fair price ? And what would be points of interest to inspect ... im not worried about "doing work"..not art all... but perhaps there are "known" issues ? Thank you in advance.. 953 nut 58,157 #2 Posted July 16, 2017 I have no way of knowing what the value in the Netherlands would be, perhaps you can find other brands of the same size and compare the prices. If the Onan has been well maintained it should be a great choice. Perhaps you could look on the "Member Map" and find another member to send a PM (personal message) to for more input. KC9KAS...that sounds to me like a HAM call ?( if so... 73s from PG0DX ) In aspect to prices, seems prices in the USA are lower compared to Europa, with that said....that is my initial thoughts...after spending a lovely weekend searching on the net...by far Im "knowledgable", could be mistaking. ohiofarmer 3,352 #5 Posted July 17, 2017 I have a Horse of that series and you need to look at the thin sheet metal that makes up the transmission tunnel. The seat mounts to some very thin [ears] on the back of the tunnel, and they can crack. My seat nearly tore off the machine while mowing a side slope There is also an idler pulley for the transmission belt that can wear through the bushing where the shaft for the pulley goes through the thin metal of the tunnel. If it wears through, expect an egg shaped hole and your transmission belts will vibrate a bunch and wear out quickly. Lubricate the thing to prolong the bushing's life You probably already know that the Onans can get hot if you don't keep the intake screen clear. Over here in the uk, they start around 100 and stop at whatever someone is prepared to pay.
