Happy 4th of July without the fireworks

Since Iowa legalized fireworks there has been a constant never ending bombardment of fireworks everyday. Last night is was totally off the wall with a non-stop effort that lasted well past 12:00PM. I'm not against fireworks within reason. They are by law regulated to a few days around the 4th. This has however been unenforced and totally abused. I believe there should be hours of the day or night that fireworks can be used/enjoyed and that isn't from 10:30 PM on. Last night was totally unbarable for our two German Shepherds neither of which would go outside for a pee when all this was going on. Having had/enjoyed the company of German Shepherds for 40+ years I've never owned one that enjoyed the boom from the big shells that were going into the air last night.

In Maryland it is not illegal to possess fireworks, only to use them. Go figure. But that does not stop anyone. From Friday on, it has been a constant din of blasts, small and large that will continue for another week at least.

I'm not hearing too many here but we'll see this evening. In Florida it was like what I imagine is a war zone with the public displays and folks all around the lake setting them off. It may sound goofy but I would watch and listen to them by the pool and be thankful. Far too many people around the world hear that every day but it's not fireworks and how scary it must be for them. It makes me all the more thankful that I was born and raised in this country. :flags-waveusa:

I'm not trying to be a kill joy. I do think that some common courtesy would be nice. Animals get scared and don't understand the constant non-stop fireworks. When an animal is terrified too terified to go outside to pee it upsets me. the best is yet to come today. I wish they would limit the times and people would stick to the times.

Good points Bob. I'm thankful for the Freedom here in this country and the ability to freely express my opinion and to those that have served and or given their lives so that others can enjoy this freedom that we do prize so highly.

Last night all was quiet. UNTIL ABOUT 10:30! :ranting:. The worse is yet to come. I live a block from where the village shoots off the big ones. And of course it as to be dark so it starts at 10:00.

I don't mind them around the 4th, as long as people don't do anything (too) dumb.

Where we lived a few years ago, though, there were a few folks who set off big ones year-round, two or three nights a week. I was backing a trailer into the driveway in the evening during move-in, trying to listen to my spotter over bang -- bang -- bang -- bang -- BOOM! And it never stopped. Watching a movie in the evening... suddenly can't hear it over the fireworks. Go to sleep, wake up after midnight to fireworks. Fireworks on Mother's Day. Fireworks on Halloween. Fireworks for Christmas. And this was in an area that was considered a desirable, middle to upper-class suburb. Homeowners' Associations and all that... Sheesh!

Where we moved to has a reputation for being a really good up-and coming real estate value, if you don't mind that a big portion of it can best be described as the sort where "Hold my beer and watch this!" is the normal state of things. But, surprisingly, fireworks aren't part of the mix except around the 4th, and sometimes a few on Memorial Day weekend, but not much ever any time else. Whod'a thunk it?

Our cats don't like it if the fireworks get too intense. They don't get startled much, just mad. They'll go from one window to the next, like they're scouting for something to kill. Probably because they were feral kittens that we raised, and they know the loud noise will scare off the birds and critters that they'd really like to go hunt. For the last two nights, they've stationed themselves on the foot of our bed, like they were guarding my wife and me. Kind of had to sleep, not because of noise from fireworks, but because of two really big cats taking up a third of the bed!

Well said Bob!      :text-bravo:

I have a friend who suffers with PTSD from his time in Vietnam and he will be camping in a remote area along the Appalachian Trail to get away from the fire works that bring his mind back to the jungles.

I feel for the Vets. Some have gone thru hell and certainly don't need to re live it.  I'm not sure the idea of fireworks for the general public was such a good idea. I for one did not purchase a thing.

Last night wasn't as bad as monday night for some odd reason. Maybe the alcohol  intake was different monday night than it was yesterday since most have to go back to work today.
