Stigian 1,234 #1 Posted January 24, 2009 My Wife was going through our photo collection the other night (as you do when there's nowt on TV) and came across a very early photo of my workshop almost as it was when I moved here about 7 years ago. Of course the first thing i did with this photo in my hand was to have a look at an up to date pic to see how things have changed And that's what gave me the idea for this thread Ok, lets start at the beginning or very close to When I moved here what was to become the Workshack looked a mess.. 2 run down stables on the right with a hop pole, tin sheeting, baling twine shed type thingy on the back. A few months later the two stable door had gone and the front part as i call it looked like this. The wall between the stables was knocked down.... Very hard work i remember Moving on many months and also moving to the back of the Workshack, the day had come to sort out the hop pole, tin sheeting and bailing twine mess. The hop pole next to the freezer shows you how small this structure was Of course not being a chap to miss an opportunity the new part of the Workshack was widened out to the tree line, which is why it's a funny shape Speaking of funny... here's Pete and Scott doing monkey impersonations during the building work Let's pop inside for a mo shall we... Putting the floor down was a lot of work, but very cheap All the floor boards came from sheet metal pallets which meant lots of careful pallet stripping.. Not as much fun as hitting pallets with a sledge hammer, but sometimes a little restraint is needed While were inside we might as well look at heating.. Wood burner No1 This didn't last long as it never produced much heat and being a top loader the Workshack used to fill with smoke every time I had to put some more wood in "coughing smilie" Wood burner No2 the little range This was great, two kettle on at the same time and a perfect pasty cooked in 20 mins. Oh, and it heated quite well Sorry for the photo of the rusty remains, but it's all i have. Wood burner No3 A very good buy at quite a cheap price This thing has two fans and really kicks the heat out. The down sides are it burns through a hell of a lot of wood, and there's no hot plate to put a kettle on
Stigian 1,234 #2 Posted January 24, 2009 The next big event in life of the Workshack was the adding of an office Thanks Dad for the shed Oh, have you noticed a theme in most of these photo's? Yep, pallets Moving forward to July 2007 the Workshack had a repaint and tidy for our up and coming wedding party. We have almost caught up with time now, as the building work started again late last summer when my landlord gave me the 's up for an extension :horseplay: Which turned out looking very much like this And that's it folks.. A BIG thank you to Garry, Pete, Rob, Scott for all your help over the years making the Workshack what its is I hope you all enjoy this brief history of the Workshack, if you have any workshop/garage history photo's over the years feel free to post them. It's always interesting to see how things have changed over the years

Stigian 1,234 #8 Posted February 1, 2009 Nice little write up. Any plans for adding another addition? Hi David, as much as Id like to make the Workshack even bigger (you can never have enough space ), I don't think my Landlord would like the idea too much Nice job Ian. You have a knack for seeing something great under a pile of crap Mike, i do try So what became of the massive tire in pic#3? Is it a future WH project? That massive tire was collected by the farmer many years ago Ian - Wonder what the next Seven years will bring? Second Floor perhaps?? Thats alot of buildin and changin in the last Seven years..you sure have a knack for buildin! There would be 2 downsides to building a second floor Scott. 1 is I would have to seriously strengthen the Workshack walls and roof to take the weight. 2 Is a second floor would mean.... stairs Ive not lived in a place with stairs in at least 12-15 years.. stairs really kill my legs these days Im not sure about having the knack of building, the main parts of the workshack were built without a spirit level. Things are... shall we say.. not quite square Having got used to the wonky walls over the years, the extension which was built with the aid of a spirit level and is square, feels wonky instead The old shed has come a long way to become a nice workshop. Mich It's been a lot of work over a lot of years but worth it Good job Ian the tHiNgY! I Like those double wammie doors! Can definatley get the projects in and out of there! whtractor/thumbsup2.gif You sure have come a long way! By the way where bouts you like in the UK whtractor/dunno.gif been meaning to ask you that? Thanks Duke. Those double doors were built with the idea i might need to fit a car in one day. A car will fit but only if it's a very small car will the double doors shut Where am I in the UK The link below should help Stigian location Link thingy Even though I cant extend the Workshack anymore, work has been happening to make some more space inside.. Time for another thread me thinks :omg:
