Lots of Snow expected.

Recommended Posts

Teddy da Bear

We here in southwestern lower Michigan are under a winter storm warning

until 7:00pm tomarow night.... 3 to 6" expected tonight (not sure about tomarow).

Then it's suppose to get real interesting with a blizzard watch for many of the

counties around here, indiana and northern illinois is already under a blizzard

warning. No......they do not feel brave enough to tell us how much snow to

expect after only tonights forcast.

Boy.....I really don't want to go out on a limb..... But I got a bad feeling

about all this snow this week.

Hope all my friends in the area are ready..... Don't get caught with your

horses down! (the same applies to pants I guess).

Looks like the weather man underestimated himself for a change.

We got the 6" maximum last night and more! I would say about

8" so far... We are getting a "break" right now... I went to clean

up and found the lower part of the drive drifted shut with 3 foot

drifts. It was too much for the Super C. So after plowing what I

could I had to get out the B-100 and blower....

It did really well.....until I got to the back yard and trail to the barn...

It was a packed 20" in most places.. And more 3 foot drifts around

the near side of the barn.......geeeeez!

Now I am frozen.......trying to warm up... Waiting for the big

potential snow tomarow.......brrrrrrrrrr........minus 13 degrees by

thursday........brrrrrrrrrr.....

Sorry no pictures on today's snow....my photographer is working!

Well....as many might know...we never got a blizzard.

Our famous (famously stupid) weatherman kept changing

the forcast (making it up as he went along). Downgraded

us to a winterstorm warning and "predicted" we would get

6" to 9" of snow. We got 3........(you don't want to read

the letter I sent him). (and yes, I know he gets info from

the national weather service, but at least he could stick his

flippin' head out the window once in a while and see that

his predictions suck!)

Then when there was a prediction for clearing skies and

extreme cold.........we got another 4" (figures). I swear they

are just trying to pi$$ us off! Seems like the law of averages

would help this guy be correct once in a while? I have

kept a log of his predictions over the entire 2008 year....

(for my curiosity sake)and he was only correct approximately

47% of the time (for precipitation). Now if you only did good

on your job 47% of the time.....would you still be employed?

As a side note...well....as mentioned in a couple of posts....

We have propane heat and a stand alone woodburning stove.

When my wife goes to work each morning she is suppose

to close up the woodburning damper and ducts and turn

on the regular furnace.

This morning I woke up shivering and crowded by doggies

trying to get warm! Went downstairs and found it was 40

degrees on the thermostat! It was minus 10 degrees

outside. (minus 20 degrees in some places)

Sometimes when the snow is deep and there is blowing and

drifting......our one regulator gets buried (and it is 3ft off the

ground). If the regulator gets burried the gas will not flow

(regulator has to breath) and then the furnace will have an

emergency code to tell you the problem.

But this was not the case.I thought perhaps our furnace went

on the fritz, but was somewhat relieved to see that she had not

switched back to "furnace"......geeeez..

(I will leave her a love note when she gets home.....grrrrr).

Anyway went to get the dogs some water and nothing

coming out of the pipes!!! I had to go re-light

the woodburner in the basement to warm the pipes in the

basement. It worked...thank goodness! Only slightly

frozen pipes, as they began to work after about an hour.

You still want to move up north???

Only -10 outside, do ya have snow plowing pictures then?

We hit around -15 and it still hasnt changed much this morning. The big snow we had the other day was around 4 inches of light fluffy stuff. Far from impressive but with the dusting we had before that at least it finally gave me something to play in. :horseplay:

No way am I going to "blow snow" when it is this cold!

If that came back and hit me in the face at this temperature

it would kill me, dead!

I will try to get some pictures up here later this evening when

my photographer gets home. Maybe I can blow some snow

when it warms up to 4 degrees this afternoon... (tropical...mmmm)

Fun aside it might be a good idea to just wait until it warms up. I wont be driving around on a tractor today.

I'll second that too, my brother! I have been really good keeping the driveway clear down to the concrete this season with the blower, and sometime switching to the plow, until this week. Holy crap it's cold out there. (north of Grand Rapids, MI.) With these -5 to -20 temps, I'll let the 1-1/2" of snow sit the driveway for a while...

Go easy on ol' Mecklenberg; lake effect is tough to predict.

My mother-in-law had the nerve to complain

that the tempurature in Florida got down to

54 degrees today! <_<

I think I am goin to send her an ICECICLE

for her birthday!

Believe it or not.....took my mother to the

doctor today. And she is right on the Indiana

Michigan state line. And she got quite a bit

more snow than we got 15 miles north!

I would say she has a good 20 to 24" in her yard.

Pity me.....I have to go clean it out tomarow! yuck!

So does your mom have a garage? Maybe you should set up a Wheel Horse with a plow or blower and keep it there so all you need to do is get to her house and clear the snow with it and not have the hassle of loading one up on a trailer and driving thru the snow with it to her house.

Thought about that long ago Mike....

But cannot trust my brother with anything of value.

Don't get me started on that subject.......we could have

a whole new catagory of entertainment on my brother.

My photographer finally agreed on a shoot.

First this is the B-100 blowing snow toward the barn.

100_0981.jpg

This was just taken today....After another 2 inches of snow.

I still had not cleaned out what was there from before.

So there was about 8" overall.... It had drifted the driveway

shut in some places.

Here is one of our pups, PayDay, before the big snows.

That second picture was actually taken before the first.

The one with my dog was one of those sub-zero mornings.

The dogs did not want to get out into the deeper snow.

And preferred to do their business on my drive......hmmmm

I did not realize the height of the snow had completely swallowed

that small tree's trunk in the first picture. Then we had 20" of

snow on the ground. I do not know the season totals....I am just

losing track.
