Hendricksn 7 #1 Posted December 12, 2016 Hey guys. My buddy has a 420-lse that we're working on. The key start was bad so we used one out of a 414-8. I checked the part numbers and it shows the same part number. My problem is, the tractor starts but does not shut off with the key. Also, none of the test lights on the dash board work. Not sure if the issues are related or not. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 10,503 #2 Posted December 12, 2016 The 420-LSE has magneto ignition which is self powered so the ignition switch must be grounded to the chassis to shut the engine off. If the 414-8 switch is a 1986 model it is the wrong switch because it used battery ignition in a K-Series engine. 1987-88 and 89 414-8's used the M14 with magneto ignition so this switch should work. Hendricksn 7 #3 Posted December 12, 2016 Does the key switch have a ground wire? Or does it ground through the sheet metal? Also, the test lights aren't working. Could that have anything to do with that ground?
