GLOBAL WARMING?

Recommended Posts

:hide: Last time I checked-I live in South Bend In. Used to be on the list of the BIG lake effect snow cities. You know, the "BLIZZARD OF 78". WHERE THE HECK IS THE SNOW? I couldn't wait until winter (tired of mowing) so I could plow SNOW!- I haven't had any seat time to speak of. Drove around today cleaning up the yard and practically took my coat off!- Maybe "Snow Miser" or "Mr. Freeze" can help me out-Anybody know their number?-AL :D

There's a big storm brewing for Tuesday and Wednesday. It's supposed to stretch from up your way to south of me. If it hit's you'll get some seat time.

Al,

It looks like the storm has fizzled out, but they're still calling for a little snow. You might still get a little plowing done.

:hide: Thanks for the update Jim- but I guess I'm truly getting old-when all I can say to my Grandkids is "Back in my day" it snowed up to the tops of cars etc. It does seem tho, that we don't get nearly as much deep snow as we did before, I can remember when "winter" meant real winter.

For right now this old guy and his Wheel Horse sit in the garage and stare out, misty eyed, wanting for snow........-AL :D

It is still kinda cold out to just sit in

the garage and be misty-eyed. You will likely have "eye-cycles" :hide:

I've said that before Al....

Some of these guys are too young to remember the good winters.

Some young people in this area make me laugh when they complain

about the winters we have now. These aren't winters! These are

just cold spells with a little snow.

I thought the way we started out with all that snow before Christmas...

It was going to be a good year....but now... Seems to be fizzling.

We have had a few good snows over the years but as Al mentioned nothing like the 78 blizzard. I was 8 and don't even have much memory of that one. :hide:

Were getting soft down here in Ohio also. Two years ago we had a snow with wind that left drifts around 2 to over 3' deep. People were all saying "worst blizzard since 78". The power was never off, the fluffy snow was easy to plow and the sun was out the next day. The idiot doing our Villages streets said it was way to bad to plow and talked them into allowing some streets to be left covered so he didn't have to haul in a backhoe! The snow was less than 12" deep on some of them! :hide::D After the next council meeting a member mentioned he about had to laugh when I told them my little 8hp lawn mower had no problem clearing the snow. :omg:

I can remember snow banks along the road from the snowplows that were 10 feet tall when I was a kid. My brother, sisters, me and our friends used to dig tunnels and make rooms in them. This would have been in the mid 60's.

During the blizzard of 78 they used a big articulated loader to clear the road and ended up hauling snow away in dump trucks because there was nowhere to stack it.

My brother and I always had snowmobiles and we got a lot of use out of them, but sometime in the late 80's we had to start hauling them to Michigan to get any good riding done.

I don't think I've seen a snow bank along that road any taller than 2 feet in the last 20 years or so.

We had about 1" of snow lastnight and on the news you think we had about 2 feet of snow ,they even closed some schools. Its suposed to get down to -4 to -5 c tonight , cant do f conversions when it goes below zero , but only a little snow to come. I remember in the 80s clearing 6to8ft drifts, nothing like that since. The worst I can remember was 1962/1963 and took weeks to clear.

For giggles I just looked up some annual snowfall amounts HERE....

South Bend averages about 70" a year. Fort Wayne, 32". Marquette, MI 140". Buffalo, NY 93". Syracuse, NY 115"

I grew up around St. Louis and I can seemingly remember LOTS of snow when I was a kid. But in reality the place only gets about 19" annually. I guess I just remember the big ones and tend to forget the dry days.

I know you guys up there are dry this year, but I wonder if the things that stick out in our memories are actually the exceptional cases and not the norms. :hide:

Doing the snow dance and crossing my fingers for a big one,

Steve

I found another source that says South Bend receives on average 81.8" of snow.

(wikipedia)

I found a "range" rather than an average for my town of Niles is 60 to 90 inches

(weathermatrix)

I have a feeling that "average" has been going down over the years.

I will see if I can find averages given for years past.

Global Warming? Why, I'm told that it's just a vast government conspericy by the Democratic Liberals. Those pictures of the North pole are supposed to be doctored up.
