HorseFixer 2,013 #3 Posted January 4, 2009 duke here are the pics of my wood boiler whatcha know? That is one big Azz Unit over 1/4 million BTUS! I haven't heard of that unit but that doesn't mean jack cause there are allot of MFG's out there. Okay you should also have the following: Aqua Stat Temperature Control Is that It I See Laying In The Snow? I also See A Temp Control On Top The Boiler. You need to take care of those and treat them gingerly. You should also have a pump and combustion blower relay. Maybe built into the Aqua stat. You Should Have A Circulating Pump? What Kind? You Should Have A Relief Valve (REPLACE IT)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you have a combustion blower? Service it. You should have an expansion tank & Pressure reducing valve? Make sure that you plug all the holes and fill it with a mixture of sulfuric acid and clean the wet side so you have all scale removed! 1/16" of scale will reduce your thermal efficiency by 20% 1/8" by 40% and so on! When you reassemble replace all door gaskets! What kinda condition is the combustion chamber in? Make sure it is clean are the grates in good shape? When do you plan on installing it? Make sure your heating buddy looks it over. Id say you did good and that should save you some cash on yer heat bills! :D
whchris 5 #4 Posted January 5, 2009 yes that is an aqua stat in a tiny bit of snow on a concrete pad but it is only going to the dump on Wednesday new ones are inside in my storage room there are 2 of them the big one that controls everything and a secondary one for if it gets too hot forget the numbers but there the common ones. by temp control do you mean that little motorized unit? if so what is this for and where do i put it it will also be replaced because i got it partially disassembled and picked it up out of a puddle in the basement. the circ pump is a taco 007. relief valve is with the new aqua stats in the same condition. bu combustion blower im assuming you mean oil burner yes its gonna get new filters and an eye adjustment as it should never run and it is only going to have a 10 gal emergency oil tank or if i ever plan on going away i will fill the boat tank i have and connect it to the 10 gal tank i have giving me 25 gal of oil at a usage of about 7 gal a day i can go away for 3 days (i have 3 dogs and a goat i don't go away for any longer than an afternoon with out anyone else here). the expansion tank is in the basement on the existing boiler i replaces it last year when i put my finger through the old one and got a nasty cut then a even worse burn. pressure reducing valve which one is this? i know what goes where but names are not always the best to use with me the door grates are like brand new and the combustion chamber is excellent seeing as there was never a wood or coal fire in it. oh and i have to get a new p.t.a. gauge the original one was removed by my tractor. i went and picked up the rest of the covers and what not today and the lady had found the manuals for operating and installing not very helpful but nice to have. thanks for the help so far, Chris
HorseFixer 2,013 #5 Posted January 5, 2009 So what you have there is a Dual Fuel Boiler Which is good! Never hurts to have a back up! The control I was referring to on top looks like a "HIGH LIMIT" that is like normally set on 200 deg about 20 degrees higher than the aqua stat which sould be set around 180 deg. Im glad ya have some new controls going on there. Make sure everything is good and clean when you reasemble and the safeties are funtioning properly. The eye you are referring to hooks to the primary safety control on the oil burner and is called a "CAD CELL" cadium sulfied flame detector and looks into the combustion chamber and monitors the ultroviolet light off the flame, if it see's the proper light the oil burner will continue to run if not then the burner will go out on flame failure which pops the little red reset button. If ya have any questions lemme know! :hide:
whchris 5 #6 Posted January 5, 2009 actually by eye adjustment i meant watching the flame till it looks like it is burning its best and calling it good an actual fire sensing eye will not work in these units im told because if you use the oil to light the wood the color of the flame changes dramatically and you would be constantly hitting the reset button so the high limit would be that little motorized gizmo that i found? now the only place i can figure it goes is a tee off the supply line? to what? a drain? now for some more technical stuff, can i leave the other stuff in my basement? air scoop, expansion tank, and what not or should that be as close to the boiler as possible? i cant find anywhere that tells me that the location of these in relation to the boiler really matters
HorseFixer 2,013 #7 Posted January 5, 2009 Uhhhh well I dont know about the motorized gizmo give me a pic On an oil burner there has to pe some kind of primary safety control in the form of an eye like I stated or a stack switch or something to tell the oil burner to shut off if there is no combustion, or you will pump the boiler full of raw oil! Ifin it does ignite you will be runnin for the hills not a pretty site! I have been out on service calls when the woman of the house denied pushing the red reset button kinda went like this then I got smart in my questioning. Duke ~ Mamm you know your not suppose to push that red reset button more than once! Lady of the house ~ I never pushed it! OR LIKE THIS AFTER I GOT SMARTER Duke ~ Mamm sometime you need to push that reset button a few times! Lady of the night errrr I mean house ! Oh I did! I Must have pushed it 20 times! Duke ~ You Dumb *it*ch thanks for ruining my night now im gonna hafta pull the oil gun out, and sop all that oil outta the pot! hey could you take yer night gown off So's I could use that as a mopping rag? Lady of the night err I mean house! ~ Im So Sorry Duke, Sure, heres my gown, undies & bra too!! Duke ! ok ok It didnt go quite like that but I have been out on several that I had to spend moocho time on, after mopping out the oil they still rumble like a freight train!! Just be careful! P.S. whoever told you a Cad Cel eye wont work on an duel fuel furnace is full of chit! I have installed a couple LONGWOODS that take 4' long logs and they have oil burners that have them on there! They may have to be cleaned more often but they work just fine!
whchris 5 #8 Posted January 6, 2009 well i found the fire eye so were good there as for pumping it full of oil well that one may be a planed one but seriously i will get a pic of that gizmo asap
