Sarge 3,464 #1 Posted September 30, 2016 Anyone found a source for the tie rod ends , or ball joints as they are called ? Both outers on my D180 are shot and listed as NLA . I'd go to regular rod ends but the issue is the 3/8" tapered end at the wheel spindles... 103416/103417 are the part numbers. Sarge
pfrederi 18,545 #2 Posted September 30, 2016 Sarge (as Sarge you may appreciate this) The only cross over between my Military Vehicle hobby and my wheel horse addiction is that one of the tie rod ends for a M274 is a perfect match for the D series (which side i have to go look and it is raining out).

Sarge 3,464 #4 Posted October 1, 2016 The ones that are worn the worst are the 103416 outer ends at the wheel spindles . One is about to break/pop off . Message sent to Daveoman....thanks . Interesting , would have never considered a Mule using the same part , but it does make sense given the size of the components . Is the stud end 3/8" with a taper ?? pfrederi 18,545 #5 Posted October 1, 2016 Right side mule is 2530-953-4877 they are (or at least were) not to hard to find. You can see the left side one has an extended shank and is hard to find. The right side has 3/8 Nf threads on the ball joint and 1/2 NF (right handed) on the shank If you search a popular auction site for " M274 MULE TIE ROD END (SHORT) " you will find one.
pfrederi 18,545 #6 Posted October 1, 2016 You will need a couple washers. The arm on the Mule is thicker than the spindle arm on the WH I mocked this up with a 1" D200 spindle I had. i think you can get rubber boots if you really want them, Army didn't use them
Sarge 3,464 #7 Posted October 2, 2016 Excellent info , sir . Keeps me from using the USMC approach to fix it ....lol . I'm bidding on one short version now , there is also a set of long/short/adapter on Ebay currently . I'll do some more research , at least now I know where to look . Just a side note - I noticed Joe's Outdoor Power has listed a 1"-3/4" reducer as an axle part - is that for a later model wheel or steering spindle ?? Thinking about either boring the axle and making bronze oilite bushings for it or finding a 1" axle setup with wheels to boot down the road . This one has some wear , not too bad yet but I work stuff pretty hard . Sarge
pfrederi 18,545 #8 Posted October 2, 2016 The adapter one in the picture wouldn't work for you. With the adapter it would be too long . (Wish they had these a few years ago when I paid bigger bucks for a long end for my Mule). I didn't find the "axle reducer so I can't comment. 1" spindles are a good thing. Several threads here about coming up with better hub bearings for 1" axles.
