ronnie696 0 #1 Posted January 2, 2009 Perhaps someone out there can help me. I normally mow my lawn in second gear, high range. I pull a trailer to collect my grass clippings, leaves, etc. When I go up or down a steap grade, the gear shift will sometimes "pop" into neutral. This happens whether it is in high or low range? Anybody know what's wrong? Thank you, Ron

MaineDad 85 #3 Posted January 2, 2009 Ron, I have the exact same tractor. Have you checked your drive belt and idler pulley lately? If either is worn, it could pop out of gear.
Rideawaysenior 25 #4 Posted January 2, 2009 Sounds like there may be a bent shift fork in there that is keeping the gear from sliding all the way over. May also be some premature wear on the gear from that too. Only good way to really diagnose it would be to split the case. Before you split the case though, when you pull the shift lever out, see if it may be bent. I did have a similar problem once, and I did have a bent shift lever as well as a damaged shifting fork. Teddy da Bear 11 #6 Posted January 2, 2009 :D All I can tell you is that I am a big guy....and my legs keep hitting the shifter and knocking it into neutral. :hide:
