jellyghost 378 #1 Posted September 23, 2016 I ran across these photos, and I was wondering if someone could explain this. In addition, how well would it work?
JERSEYHAWG / Glenn 4,487 #2 Posted September 23, 2016 I saw that recently, isn't that for sale currently? Some home made hydraulic rig.. don't know how it would work, but it's interesting, good ol American ingenuity. Glenn

Jelly, I don't have a clue, you can see time and effort went into it. But I am by far no hydro / pneumatics expert. Drop the guy a line, see what he was thinking, or drinking, or smoking. That is currently for sale though Right? I just saw it within the past week I think. Glenn
RubyCon1 62 #5 Posted September 23, 2016 (edited) looks MASSIVELY OVER-ENGINEERED for an attachment lift 10 hp should easily power the system. those poor front wheel spindles ! . Edited September 23, 2016 by RubyCon1
857 horse 2,581 #6 Posted September 23, 2016 My head is saying SNOW plow....a small electric winch might have saved days of thought ... i just noticed............2 valves,, hmmmmm.
KC9KAS 4,741 #7 Posted September 23, 2016 Someone just wanted hydraulics on their 8 speed Wheel Horse. The 2nd valve may go to a mid (or rear) lift.
953 nut 51,940 #8 Posted September 23, 2016 Definite overkill on the hydraulics! I see a tiller on the back with hoses going in that direction and I suppose a blade or small bucket would go on the front. For sure he will have good down pressure!
Ed Kennell 35,929 #9 Posted September 23, 2016 May be a lift to make it easy to clean the inside of the deck after mowing. But now it's a 2 day job to check the engine oil level.
elliot ness 1,916 #10 Posted September 23, 2016 (edited) I don't have a clue what it all was for, but what ever he or she was building, they did a good job and must have put a lot of thought into it, plus money. ACman 7,559 #11 Posted September 23, 2016 I'm with You with 953 , Looks to me he found a Northern catalog and just went over kill on a hydraulic system ! Mobile hydraulic unit for wood spliter , dump cart . Probably fan of Home Inprovment's Tool Time .

roadapples 6,981 #13 Posted September 23, 2016 Not sure either, but he definitely knows more about hydraulics than I do....

Ed Kennell 35,929 #15 Posted September 23, 2016 Oh, i'm sure he realized early on Doug that he could not open the hood or use a deck, tiller, blower, or anything that required a PTO or mule drive.
JAinVA 4,619 #16 Posted September 23, 2016 Looks like whoever plumbed this put the filter on the suction side of the pump. Not a good choice.JAinVA
cleat 4,996 #17 Posted September 23, 2016 My big diesel tractor is plumbed that way. Filter is more like a fine mesh internally. I believe it is that way because there are several return lines due to numerous valves in the system (loader, 3 point, rear remotes).
JAinVA 4,619 #18 Posted September 23, 2016 (edited) Only one return line on that valve. Its the big one outboard side. Most hydraulic systems have the filter in the vavle return line circuit If the strainer on the suction side impedes flow to the pump catastrophic pump damages occurs quickly Edited September 23, 2016 by JAinVA
Sarge 3,462 #19 Posted September 24, 2016 Hard telling it's actual intended use , but putting all that hardware on the heat outlet side of the engine is not a good idea for the valve/pump setup nor the engine itself....just saying. Sarge
