875 Fuel Sediment Bowl

I took my 875 for the first ride of the year today, it started right up and ran good for the first couple of minutes but then lost power and seemed like it was running out of gas, I started to smell gas and when I looked at the sediment bowl it was shooting a stream of gasoline from the the hole that usually has the shut off valve in it. I would like to know if I should do away with the bowl, replace it or see if I can get a new valve ( or find the one that fell out ).

While the sediment bowl is stock and looks cool,I would eliminate it and install an inline shut off and a filter.:banana-wrench:

 

I never met a sediment bowl that didn't leak! :)

Sediment bowl catches the big chunks but lets the rest of the garbage free to try and get lodged between the needle and seat. 

Yeah what squonk advised is the best solution and probably also the cheapest.    :)

I had been thinking about getting rid of the bowl even before this happened so that is probably the way I am going.

Nothing like a fuel leak in a hot garage. you get home from work and whip open the door and WHEW!!!!!! :blink:

I agree and that is what I did on my 875.

I know it has been a year since I posted this but I found the missing part the next day sitting on the frame.

The 875 had lost all its gas by then and I pushed in my basement and left it alone until the other day when

I refilled the tank and rode the tractor around my yard. Now it has a slight leak from the valve and is making

my house smell like gas. Anyone have an idea as to why it is leaking?

Gasoline with ethanol that sits for any amount of time, will cause the metal parts of the sediment bowl/shut-off valve, fuel pump, and carburetor to corrode. In your case where everything is running okay, I'd replace the bowl/valve with a new one or remove it altogether and add a new shut-off valve and in-line fuel filter.

I decided to do away with the bowl should I just use a elbow to replace it.
