Video of the 701 and a Question

That NAPA  4L700 W   Green Belt  ( 70 x 1/2)  used as a drive belt on the 701 is a very good belt.    I had to replace mine the other day as the 701   belt failed .    The chords on the belt came  out .    The new belt installed yesterday needed no break in time as the  previous belts I have used needed.   It was smooth sailing on the first shifts.

Lane, if you dont mind me asking, what is the gauge of wire you are using for the belt brake I see there? I need to either do that or fab a new tab on the bottom of my guard on my 702. Just entered the round hood fun after fooling with later model tractors mainly

Chris:   Send me you mailing address and I will send you one of these.   I made my top  belt guide out of this.   I used a Dremel to cut off the  top  part in front of the  U shaped part  where the bolt goes into the motor.  You can use on bottom or top depending on where you need it.  The 701 and 702 belt guards did not have the later design features on them that the  1963 belt guards had  be catching the drive belt when you use the clutch.  They used these wire belt guides.   I do not know the guarge of the wire  but this is a good size.   I have made guides using a little smaller guage wire and they worked just as well,

I also placed a larger washer in front of the wire guide also.    I used a washer  on the lower bolt behind the belt guard to make sure it pumped out further too.  Also  -although you can barely see the wire under the bolt I have a wire belt guide on the underneath of the belt (and motor pulley)  at the front of the belt guard too.

An aftermarket belt on a WH! Oh the horror!!!! SARCASM ALERT!!!!!! :)

I can't imagine the Ponds, as frugal and efficient as they were, specifying special pullies and special belts for their tractors. I have never had a problem with any non OEM belt on any horse in my life. I don't know where this non OEM belts don't work got started, but if it's true, I'd like to see it in writing. :)

Never had an issue with the good green belts from Napa. Running them on my tiller, 520,416, and mower decks without issue.

Same thoughts as you, Squonk
