Onan disassemble question

This question is for someone who knows. How do you remove the 

Gear from the crank shaft on the flywheel side so that I can remove

the crank from the block?

Do you have the service manual?

Yes I have that info. I have removed the clip & the fiber / plastic piece

but can't get gear to move. There are 2 10-32 tapped holes in the gear

But find it hard to believe that is how you pull it off.

Yup, believe it or not the guy that wrote the Onan service manual knew what he was talking about.

 

That gear is on there tight,  I made an adaptor to use a steering wheel puller to pull it off.  And the gear does need to be heated to get it back on (as per the manual).

Make sure you only use Allen head style 10-32 screws as they typically are grade 8. Anything less will just break off. Don't overheat the gear when putting it back on. When you "spit" on the gear while heating it up and the spit balls up and rolls off you are at the right temp.
