I hear that.  No parent should have to go through this kind of thing, but it happens.  Be strong, for yourself and the rest of your family, we'll all be pulling for Mark.

I am so sorry to hear this, and my prayers that he has a full and quick recovery.  You're in a great area with the best specialists in the country to help get the treatment he needs.

Sorry for the gap, fellas.  Been a tough go here.  Quick update:

Marks pneumonia wasn't responding right away to treatment, they've pretty much got that under control now.  He is off all the support and breathing on his own.  His right side is partially paralyzed and his right eye doesn't appear to be working.  Pupils respond to light but that's it.

He recognizes us and can say our names one day and not the next.  He has a hard time forming words, sentences are out of the question right now.  His brain and body aren't in sync with each other so the ongoing neurological assessments are kinda fruitless.

He is eating drinking and swallowing on his own, well, he has a hard time hitting his mouth with a fork or spoon so they help him with that.

He just has a long way to go.  The reality is, he is alive, and getting a little better every couple days.

Sorry I couldn't tell you he's up and ready to run, but he's a darn sight better than he was two weeks ago.

So is the Mom.

*EDIT*  PS, Driver will supposedly be arrested and charged with DUI, assault 2nd with a motor vehicle, operating under suspension, failure to yield a pedestrian in a crosswalk, and surprise surprise, no insurance...

Hopefully the ahole that hit him has in$urance . . . sorry to hear, that is a terrible situation.  I know I'd have to keep from finding the <insert banned word> and having a blanket party if you know what I mean . . .

Nope.  No insurance, drivers license was under suspension, dui, etc...

It's a mess.  Our Son didn't have medical insurance and only the state minimum for his own auto policy which even though he was a pedestrian I'm under the impression his auto policy is on the hook, so right now medicaid is filling that entry on his forms...

Looking into our auto policy to see if they'll kick in some, and we've just yesterday started the legal ball rolling to do what we can to ensure his needs alone are made the sole interest in this whole mess as there are scumbag relatives who are already trying to profit themselves from Marks' misfortune.

It just sucks.

*EDIT*  PS, I do know what you mean.  It's been a long time since I've had to really struggle to control my physical response to my anger, and although it would be easy to fall back into that trap again, I just have to keep reminding my beautiful Wife (and myself) that we need to pray for him and our relatives just as we are praying for our Son.  You know, that's a very hard thing to do...

Thanks again everyone.  It's a beautiful day, go love on your family.  It may be the last time you see them, or they you.

Well said.  The demons always come out in difficult times.  Focus on your family and his needs.  You can limit who visits the hospital, if necessary.  It can be a long haul, but the mind and body can work miracles in time.

*UPDATE*

Son continues to make tiny improvements each day, Hospital wants to give him the boot because he's on medicaid.  It's crazy how messed up they are, I get it's a business but come on already.

We've been busting our keisters trying to find anyone who has the resources to work with his TBI here in CT who'll also accept medicaid, would you believe not a single outfit will take him as an inpatient?  And because medicaid is controlled by the state even though its a federal program, we didn't have the option to look elsewhere - until now.  His case manager has been pushing hard for a place in Massachusetts, apparently CT and MA are friendly somehow with respect to medicaid.  We just learned last night that they've accepted him (they came down to interview us and him last week or two weeks ago) and will be transporting him tomorrow.

Dang good news.  But, wouldn't you know that as hard as we've been fighting for something like this, the Mom is already bumming about the distance to visit her baby?  Lol
