Lane Huls 146 #1 Posted May 23, 2016 Picked up a B-111 this week. It has sat out for a long time without the cover over the starter. The plastic gear is so brittle it loses teeth every start. Does anyone know exactly what gear I need? I find tons on ebay, but none the seem to explicitly state that they are for this motor.
geod919 12 #2 Posted May 23, 2016 I just ordered a whole starter for about $35 for my b-111. It seems like almost all of the Briggs of that era used the same starter. No guarantee that an aftermarket Gear will fit your starter though.
Lane Huls 146 #3 Posted May 23, 2016 Right, was sort of hoping one of the $4-9 steel gears would work. Maybe I'll hit up the local shop before I go any further. Still starts with 3 teeth left..somehow.

Howie 899 #5 Posted May 23, 2016 The steel gears were generally used when the ring gear on flywheel was plastic or what ever they call it. All of the starters used the same style gear at least on the single cylinders and some twins. Dave
Lane Huls 146 #6 Posted May 23, 2016 So get this. I get to work today, and a guy I work with says, I brought you a couple starters and some other parts. Hands me two exactly same starters like the one I have, a coil and an extra steel gear for these starters. All which have good gears. One is plastic. Now the extra steel gear had this to say
Lane Huls 146 #7 Posted May 26, 2016 the other day I did put a new gear on, and discovered the flywheel gear is missing several teeth as well. I know they are supposed to have 11hp engines on them, but mine has an 11.5. Would this change the flywheel ring gear I would need?
