buffaloman 295 #1 Posted May 22, 2016 I just posted in transmissions and transaxles about the charger 12 i picked up that had set outside for 15 years and the compartment where the auto lever goies into was filled with 40+ black walnut hulls and a bird bone and mouse nest wouldn't allow the lever to move the tractor in forward. Cant wait to hear your stories???
ClassicTractorProfessor 5,371 #2 Posted May 22, 2016 Can't say that I had it running within minutes cause I never even tried starting it as it wasn't the original engine but my 701 was in pretty bad shape when she followed me home...hopefully someday this little jewel will run again
Cameron670 33 #3 Posted May 23, 2016 My first Wheel Horse, a FREEEEEEE 310-8, I literally picked up in two pieces. The previous owners teenage boys had been having wheelie contests on the hill behind the garage. The rear end mounting plate was beyond trashed. I think they did a lot of 3rd gear, push in clutch, coast backwards.........etc. I built a new plate and welded it on, (very squarely) It took less than 10 minutes to get it running. Total spend was a shift rod, choke cable & battery. I put SEVENTY hours on it last summer. I help maintain the local Rails-To-Trails in our town. I mowed a 5 mile stretch of the trail (berms) 4 times last year with it. It doesn't even know its old........sips fuel....... The hook was set, now we have 3. and I was raised hard core cub cadet!
953 nut 60,127 #4 Posted May 23, 2016 Last year I bought this 953 from @Ed Kennell. Ed pulled it out of a ditch where it had rusted away for who knows how long. Cleaned the carb, sanded the points with some 400, put another coil on it and a new fuel line and it fired right up. Much to my amazement, the lights even worked!

"D"- Man 827 #6 Posted May 23, 2016 A gentleman on the square here had a WH for sale near Nashville, TN. I had two of my son's go with me from Lima, OH to buy it, knowing the seller was honest and upfront about it not starting. He did mention it ran a year or two prior, to letting it set. After we had it home we spent probably 20-30 minutes checking gas pressure and spark then tried adjusting the levers and it started. We were really bummed for a minute or so because even though the mid and rear lift worked fine, we had no forward or reverse. Knowing there was no mention from the seller about it not being in driving condition, I remembered that we turned the tow valve to unload it from the trailer. The forward and reverse both worked fine after resetting the tow valve.
chip61 666 #7 Posted May 23, 2016 I have a friend that goes to a lot of estate sales. He called and told me he had bought me a "parts" tractor with a blade and worn out deck. I got it home, decided it didn't look bad enough to part out so I cleaned out all the leaves and pine needles. Cleaned the fuel tank and carb and threw a jet ski battery on it. Took about an hour. It's actually a pretty nice little tractor.
Thisguyisnew 114 #8 Posted May 23, 2016 Got lucky kind of... sort of. I have a c-160 that must have been put away with very little to no gas. After some tinkering fired up about the first time I tried but did not stay running. A few days of having to track down a condenser later and off it went. By then though I had the points and new hoses, etc. But was less than 3 minutes maybe even 2 to fire up that first time
