Question,

         I have a 312-8 with a mower deck when I bought the tractor the mower deck didn't raise or lower,I recently took the deck off to discover a chain that wasn't hooked up when I hooked it up the deck worked opposite when I went to raise and would lower. How would I switch this? I notice it has plow mounts so somebody at one part of its life had a plow hooked up. (Also hopefully I posted in the right place.)

You have something connected wrong.  Look CLOSELY at this schematic to show where / how the mower lifts.  Note the lower left corner..

NOTE... I've modified this schematic to show the lift linkage for the mower deck .....shaded in blue.

Did your lift chain happen to get routed over part # 19 in Dave's drawing? That would make it operate backward.

It would also work backwards if the lift chain is mounted on the back of the rockshaft,

in one of the holes for the snowblower, generator or rear lift cable.

Can you post a picture of how it's hooked up? Your situation seems almost impossible. The chain would have to be routed over the shaft as Richard mentioned but I just don't see how that could happen.

Impossible to visualize? Looking forward to your findings 'cause your problem doesn't compute.

 

Any pic's? #'s 54 & 55 aren't on any of my Horses lifts but, might be a good idea.

got to ask how you came up with your handle 70dartman ? if it is what i'm thinking i had several 70 Darts back in the day including a couple of 340 4 speed
