Tow valve

Recommended Posts

Thisguyisnew

Bought a c-160 that was sitting for many years in a shed. After installing a new condenser and adding some gas fired right up. Minor work later and it has been my main mower ever since. I can't enough about this tractor. Except the tow valve is stuck solid. Trust me when I say it's stuck. I believe this is very common and don't seem to have a need for it now but would like the option. Besides penetration oil and extreme patience would any of you know of any other safe methods to bust this loose? Thanks in advance.

This TOW VALVE / PUSH VALVE is in a really awkward place on the left side...hard to get to and a long broad flat screwdriver doesn't always work.  If you can find VISE GRIPS small enough to get onto the valve stem is a better way.  With the vise grips VERY TIGHT on the valve stem, give the grips a quick WHACK.....rather than applying a lot of brute force.  The quick WHACK should break it loose.  Here is what it would look like apart:

Thanks, your pic I think will be the most help to me as I was assuming too much was involved on stem end that might break inside. Tried all that you suggested before but I might try with a bit more confidence. Another good well placed blow is in order I think. Thanks again as I knew I came to the right place.

Thanks glad to be here. Am I wrong in thinking that a Wheel Horse and its actual hp is under rated. I was in the market for a riding mower for a long time before I came across this Wheel Horse last summer. You now I can cut tall grass at low throttle and after adding a good used nelson muffler it purrs. Compared to some of the new riders this one doesn't need to sound mean or like it is vibrating itself apart to display power. This is my first and only Wheel Horse so don't want to claim I know for sure.
