Retired Wrencher

Hi I have an older 8hp That was neglected that is in an newer 308-8..It smokes real bad when cold not to bad when hot I have changed the oil 3 times now  less than a week. The oil that was in there when I pick it up was like black sludge. Could not tell because of below the markings on dip stick when I bought for cheap. So this last oil change I tried some of that no smoke oil in a bottle with regular 30 weight.  I am thinking that the oil ring is gum up casing blow by. I am also thinking of using a motor flush. Like a Gunk 5 minute product .  Has any one ever tried this in a small engine? I do not mind some smoke but this one is a little bad.

I am not a fan of most cure in a can products, (other than Sea Foam). If you don't wish to take the engine apart you could run a 50/50 mix of 30wt and Lucas oil treatment. I have one Kohler that I have ran with this mix for sometime now. Without the Lucas I have noticeable smoke, with the Lucas there is little to no smoke. Lucas works great as an assembly lube also.

achto    slammer302   OK thanks guys. I sat down and actually read the hole bottle yesterday. I have been using it in older tractors. But not as much. I will give it a try today. She has plenty of power I been towing this around for a few days. Full of dirt up hills no knocks.
