wallfish 15,934 #26 Posted May 15, 2016 Can you please post some pics of your engine on the tractor? Especially the front of the engine with the wires. Something is just not right since that screw should have nothing to do with anything except holding the throttle control. Is that a black wire coming through that little hole in bottom left of that pic?
squonk 38,947 #27 Posted May 15, 2016 It sounds like the mag coil is not insulated from the block and grounding thru that throttle cable. That coil may be bad were the windings are leaking thru to where it mounts to the engine.
wallfish 15,934 #29 Posted May 15, 2016 If the throttle conduit contacts the points, that would do it. Do you have the points cover?
jsp_333 222 #30 Posted May 15, 2016 Ya. I'll put it on tomorrow and keep everyone posted. Cheers.
jsp_333 222 #31 Posted May 15, 2016 Wallfish: Nailed it!! I took the engine out of the tractor fired it up and then positioned the throttle conduit to touch the points. Engine immediately started to fail. Took it away and repeated the process. Same result. So I'll get the points cover back on once I'm happy with the engine timing.
953 nut 51,752 #32 Posted May 15, 2016 What an adventure, even Sherlock Holmes would be proud of solving that mystery!
wallfish 15,934 #33 Posted May 15, 2016 If needed you can change the position of that conduit so it doesn't interfere or have to be bent. There is a 3/4" nut behind the governor arm which holds that bracket. Just loosen that nut a little and you can re-position that bracket. The conduit can go under the pulley side of the engine
jsp_333 222 #34 Posted May 17, 2016 Thought I posted this last night but apparently not. Huge thanks to all and if ever there was a time for dancing bananas this is it so... Tweaked the carb tonight and was actually out riding the rj tonight. Unbelievable.

jsp_333 222 #36 Posted May 17, 2016 Well you asked for it. Also this was a goal of mine - to get the engine sound like this. Don't know why... it just sounds like it's supposed to - to me anyway. Have recut "Had a little Accident" and will be reposting after the sequel "RJ's REVENGE" is ready for prime time Just because.m4v
wallfish 15,934 #37 Posted May 18, 2016 Not as fun as the first one was but still nice to see that old K90 spinning again. Glad you got her going!
