If you have something that burns a little oil that's what I would use it for .Someone makes a rack that you put your jugs on upside down to let them empty fully into another jug so you use every bit of oil. 5 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Sparky-(Admin) 23,247 #4 Posted May 7, 2016 Ok...good...that's two in favor of mixing. I say that because I already mixed it all for an oil change in my 310-8 (Magnum). Phatboy 565 #10 Posted May 8, 2016 Here is the problem with using mixed oils in a engine or high speed or rotating mechanical device or equitment,, if you habe a oil that at 70 degrees is 30w and another at that temp is 35 or 40W,, the oils "will" seperate,,, because of the different additives that different companies use, different oils react differently at different ambient temperatures .. So that being said using in engine or hydro pump is a bad idea,, i once had to take a class on this very subject for work,,, now if you are using in a chainsaw blade or something of that nature sure no problem,, bit to use it in the ways mentioned above will lead to a much shorter equitment life,,, remember these are not the "Basic oils of old,, in todays oils they all have additives,, and from company to company different ones at that... hope my insight helps you out buddy !!! Phatboy 565 #13 Posted May 9, 2016 (edited) If motor oil is just motor oil,, then why the different weights ? Why use 10W-30 instead of straight 40 or 10 or 20 ? Why because it acts different in different temperatures ,,, its not rocket science its just science,,, and how is it made into multi- grade oil ?? Additives ! And is diesel motor oil able to withstand higher temps ? yes and why? Additives !!! different oils do different things in different situations,,, temps etc...Hence the reason for different oils in the first place, For those who honestly believe "Oil is just Oil " good luck lol !!!
