sk 486 starter problems HELP

I have a sk 486  with kohler 16 horse   put new stater and battery now it burns fuse and when i get it to work the bendix on starter will not go out far enough to turn over engine  PLEASE  HELP                         Thanks

Hmmm.... Is the flywheel all the way in on the crankshaft?

To be clear did you mean stator or starter here,...did you have the flywheel off??

 

Does it work properly if you run a heavy jumper from the battery + terminal directly to the Starter motor terminal (by passing the solenoid and all switches)
