Slipping transmission belt

Recommended Posts

semper5

I have been having a problem with my drive belt slipping from my transmission pulley. I have a C145 tractor. I have included a few pics to show, maybe someone can help pinpoint why the belt keeps slipping off the pulley?

Why is the limit to upload so small? Anyway around this?

Storage space for forums isn't cheap, so there is a limit on storage. Becoming a supporter removes that limit, and is not at all expensive.

You can also use sites like Photobucket, but there are a lot of posts I've found looking for answers where the pictures no longer work. Not sure if the photobucket account is closed or what, but it is very frustrating to find someone with exactly the answer you need, but the pictures don't work.

Here are a few pics of my belts, perhaps this may clue someone in as to what may be different. Although, at this point, I suspect I should remove the belt and measure it.

Are your belt guides (# 10 & # 14 below) positioned correctly?

Huskee Kevlar belts on the shelf at Tractor Supply. They're "green", meaning "oil resistant". Inexpensive.

Your belt really appears too long (?).

It looks pretty worn, and might just be stretched out too far.  Be sure there is no oil leaking on the pulleys, or something in the way of the pulley that applies the pressure, limiting the movement.

Tankman has the answer. The belt is on the wrong side of the guides at the engine pulley. It should be below the top guide and above the lower guide.

I agree with tankman, I would also add that there looks to be excessive sideways movement on the idler pulley, might want to check that out as well.  :coffee:

A washer or two would eliminate sideway movement of the idler pulley. While there, hit the spring with a bit of PB Blaster. Shop vac first!

Alright gentlemen, it has been addressed. The old belt was too narrow and stretched a bit. New Huskee belt from TSC solved the problem. I also but the belt guides on correctly. I will later take a look at the idler pulley, and add a few washers. There is definitely quite a bit of space where that bolt goes. Once again, thanks for the help ya'll!
