ClassicTractorProfessor 5,371 #26 Posted April 6, 2016 I don't see any tags besides the serial number which is 47969...it does have a hole right below the serial number and to the right of the shift pattern opposite the throttle knob (or what it was hooked up to anyway) and another smaller hole just to the left of that. There is a solenoid (maybe for starter???) under the fuel tank to the left of the steering shaft
stevebo-(Moderator) 8,534 #27 Posted April 6, 2016 The 701 does not have the left lower side cover that covers the brake band.

stevebo-(Moderator) 8,534 #29 Posted April 6, 2016 Here is my 701 and you can see no cover down low. I believe all other 7 series had it.

I feel dumb now after looking at some pictures on Google...my dash is gone so I don't know if it had a starter button or not

You got one real nice gift and have the opportunity to make it whatever you want it to be. That Wisconsin engine is probably the missing link to someone's project and you can give it to them and keep the good karma flowing.

Very true...it will be going to my storage shed until I can find it a home...this little tractor has already taken the place of my 1277 as my favorite one...and I think the bug has already bitten me...already wondering what my third one will be...wife wants me to find her one too

AlwaysLookin80 1,308 #36 Posted April 7, 2016 I need to see the foot pedals, if they are shoe like shape it's most likely a 701.

AlwaysLookin80 1,308 #39 Posted April 7, 2016 (edited) It's a 701. You can also tell by the steering wheel, in 1962 I think wheel horse went to the plastic center, yours is the steel center with no horse emblem. Just repowered and they couldn't get the hood back on. at least they didn't cut the hood up to make it fit. Great tractor, 701s are hard to find. If you lived closer I have a good running 7 hp Kohler that would go right on that tractor. Edited April 7, 2016 by J.A.
Racinbob 11,938 #40 Posted April 7, 2016 I'd agree with the 701. The decisive clues are the left side and the dash panel (but we don't have a view of that, just going by what you said). Obviously the motor isn't original. A lot of them ended up replacement parts so that would account for the slotted hood. Often it's impossible to be 100% certain. So many parts are interchangeable and got swapped out over the years.

WHX?? 51,787 #42 Posted April 7, 2016 You the man Prof, put that supporter to work now and keep the coming!! ...Nice tractor...those vintage tires look to be in decent shape & lots of very usable parts on her! Well worth what you paid for it!
ClassicTractorProfessor 5,371 #43 Posted April 7, 2016 I may be biting off more than I want to chew but I think I'm gonna fix her up...the deck is shot though someone took a cutting torch and cut the whole front out of it but the spindles and everything are good I think so may have some deck parts if someone needs them
Racinbob 11,938 #44 Posted April 7, 2016 (edited) The serial # puts it right in the middle of the 701's I don't think it will be as bad as you think. Glen Pettit sells dash plates, the hood is off a later model but so what, you must put a belt guard on it so it works properly, some extra holes have been added, find a K161 or K181, some elbow work finished off with decals from Terry and you'll have a dandy. I'm sure you already know what kind of help that's available here. I'll bet somebody has a deck shell that you can put your parts on. Not an OSHA Approved modification, but then nothing on an early is!
