dells68 7,499 #27 Posted April 6, 2016 Well, I gassed her up, pulled her out, and started it up. Ran great. Now I've just got to find time to finish the rest of the tractor. She even charges with a new regulator now.
dells68 7,499 #28 Posted June 18, 2016 Been a long time since my last update. I pulled the GT14 out for the first time in a couple of months. Tore all of the sheet metal off, stripped her to bare metal and painted her regal red, put on some of Terry's decals and Glenn's dash, shift panel, and hood knob. I've still got to fix some cracks in the steering wheel and put on the bearing caps up front. Overall, I'm pleased with how it looks. I'll be bringing it along next weekend.
Aldon 4,828 #29 Posted June 18, 2016 Looks better than my paint job by a long shot. Nice job!
ztnoo 2,300 #30 Posted June 18, 2016 Dell, Looks sharp! If I were you, I'd be getting some dust caps on those front wheels to protect the bearings and grease.
dells68 7,499 #31 Posted June 18, 2016 Thanks guys! Just waiting on the bearing caps to dry before I put them back on. Just finished her up this morning. Drove her around the yard a little and everything seems ok. I hope everything is ok. She'll get a good shakedown Friday night.
GlenPettit 1,717 #32 Posted June 18, 2016 Looks like this front wheels are 2" hubs, but there isn't enough room really for a small (flex rubber) hub cap to fit on them, maybe the metal ones can snap on that. Other GT-14's have those front metal wheels also. ??
dells68 7,499 #34 Posted June 18, 2016 Yup, they take the metal ones. I'll have them back on later today. I just painted them black, but they're dented a little. I'd like to find some a little nicer, but I bet they are all a little dented from being pounded back on.
ztnoo 2,300 #35 Posted June 18, 2016 (edited) Lube them just slightly to help them slide, then very lightly bump around the outer rounded part of the dust cover with the softest rubber mallet or hammer you have. Who care if it takes slight longer to put them on if you can minimize damaging them? I painted mine this winter and because they were totally undented, I spent a little extra time making sure they stayed that way.
