Wheel Horse ice cream

Recommended Posts

c-series don

A number of years ago someone at the big show had a belt driven ice cream maker. I don't know if it was an R.S. Member or not, but I'm sure others here remember it. Having almost run out of attachments to get I would really like to find one of these and oh also figure out how to make ice cream! I just remember the smiles on the kids faces (and adults) and would like to be able to make that happen again. Oops maybe I should have posted this in implements and attachments sorry. Any help may lead to free ice cream at the show!!

Sorry, don't know how to make ice cream or where to find the maker.

I have eaten a lot of ice cream, tractor made at numerous shows. Hate to admit it, last show the grandsons pigged out on green ice cream with yellow sprinkles.

Get this and a gearbox to slow down the spin and get a churn'n! Or use a WH generator to power the electric motor

A friend made one up several years ago that was powered by a hit and miss. He used an old "hand crank ice cream maker" and a few belts and pulleys to slow it down, do an :techie-ebay: search for them, lots to pick from. By the way, I prefer Peach Ice Cream.  :ychain:

Check out lehmans online store, they are more traditional Amish life store and have stuff like what you are looking for, around here that stuff is common with all the Amish, they use hit and misses and small engines at all the fire sales and auctions churning ice cream.  I think another big name is Jacks country store, very similar to the plain life living, cool stuff a lot American made too!

Oh and I will be sure to have a few smiling faces in your line if you find one for the show...

I also have an ice creamer make on my list to build one of these days.  Unfornatualy the medium to larger hand crank ice cream makers have become quite pricey.  please post details of your build

Ok so from what I can gather I have to get some big pulleys so I can turn this thing slow enough. I do remember the guy at the show running his tractor just above an idle, then as the load increased it would gradually slow the engine till it stalled. Then the ice cream was ready. At least that's how I think it was done,it's been a few years. I can't be the only one here that remembers this, can I? Maybe it was all a dream. Like having a 420LSE with your name on the hood plate!!

:twocents-02cents:       If you have an extra transmission sitting around you could get a selection of speeds from it.

You don't necessarily need BIG pulleys. You can use multiple pulleys to multiple shafts to achieve the reduction. Chain and sprockets can be done in a smaller package. You can find calculators on the net to figure out sizes to match the RPM you need

Do they have any internal lubrication, pretty low RPM units, not sure how well that will hold up.

I have one, I'll have to take a look at it.

Best I can remember it has a series of sprockets and chains with a pully for an electric motor. ?

Wow, i didn't even think about that. I never stick around for that because to get to the show on time on Friday I have to get up at about 2AM. So I'm ready to sleep after dinner!!! Now I may have to take a nap mid-day! Hopefully Mark Klinger will be at this years show and I can barter some ice cream in exchange for napping in his super nice camper!
