Help Identify My Wheel Horse

Recommended Posts

TurboZinke

I have had this Wheel Horse since I was 10 years old. Now I'm 31, and I've just bought a house so I want to get this thing going!  It was painted 20 years ago and looked really good. It's never run very well and never cut grass very well. I was too young to understand how to really work on it back then, but I'm ready now. I got it running yesterday (with a pull rope) and it sounded pretty good.  It does have electric start. I don't know how many HP the engine is.

I would like to know what year it is and what model. I think it got painted over. I have found similar models, but not the same model. The serial number is A-72124. Thanks for your help!

It's got the Tecumseh on it Lane.  604 or 654.  654 if it has battery cables.  Anyway, it looks like a 1964...6 hsp Tecumseh.  :)  Nice looking tractor, and Welcome to Red Square.

It's got a battery tray so I'll go with a 1964 - 654. Maybe you can remove some paint over the sticker on the belt guard.

If you have something covered with paint, take a rag with Acetone and rub gently.  The paint will soften and come off with out hurting the sticker.  :)

Like stevasaurus  said, use some paint remover and a rag on the belt guard where the 704 is at on Lane's tractor picture.

604....6 hp, pull start, 1964

654....6 hp, electric start, 1964

704....7 hp, pull start, 1964

754...7 hp, electric start, 1964

With the starter bump on the techy and the battery tray I'd call it a 654 like the one in my avatar. Nice horse and welcome to Red Square!

If you check the engine cover you should be able to find the model # of that engine.

Those carburetors can be a bit finicky and probably the cause of any issues of running rough.  I would suggest buying a new one. They're pretty cheap on Ebay
