It's like most puzzles but you need to start from the middle and work your way out.

Check the manuals section for your diagram.

This will help you out. You don't need to open the transmission to replace the seals but it sure doesn't hurt to inspect everything. Don't forget pictures when you get started. :)

That looks like the best puzzle money can buy!  You need to buy a completed one to see where everything goes!

Ya I will say a few hail Mary's and go for it yes it's got a snow blade hopefully all the pieces are there .starting with transmission first. The engine turns over and has compression. Probably  do valve job and new piston an rings also then if all is there paint or possibly powder coat

Does someone know how to check the oil in the transmission. I didn't see a drain plug either? I replaced seals and two bearings other than that it all looked pretty good.

You have to drain the tranny oil by removing one of the lower side plate bolts. Use 1 1/2 quarts or fill until it comes out the plug on the right side. Either way is fine. :)

There should be a plug on the right side, looking from back of the trans. Full when oil flows out Easiest to drain by removing one of the bolts holding the side plate to the cast center.

@kthack657  could you post some measurements of the suburban 401 drive belt idler spring.  From the forum i've gleamed it's 4-1/2 long overall and 5/8 dia,..does that match yours ?  also what is the spring coil length and the spring wire diameter.

From my notes and don't recall which one the measurements came from

83-2730 Replaces 1014 1014P 1486 Possibly replaced by 108035 but 83-2730 and 108035 both still available from Toro. Makes me think there is a difference somewhere.

4.500" between hooks

.070" wire

.520" coil OD

.380" coil ID

3.570" coil length

52 + two 1/2 coils

Pm me and I'll give you my number if you need help. I just did a full frame off, every nut and bolt is new on my suburban. I can tell you where everything goes and I even took pictures on my phone as I reassembled it.
