this is a civil matter.

This is a CRIMINAL matter, and most likely a felony. The lost time, repair costs, maybe even a bit for "mental anguish" could be sought in civil court, but unless and until the criminal act is prosecuted, a civil court most likely would not hear it.

Most of the posters have reiterated the advise I gave. Call the police and talk to management. Keep a running log. Don't add conjecture or the like, stick to known facts. That limits a suspect's defense attorney's attacks on you if it gets in a courtroom. Your idea of a camera in the car is outstanding. Very hard to argue with good, unbiased video. Don't waste your money on locking lug nuts. They will probably just get damaged so badly that it will cost a bundle to get them removed and replaced. I've seen far more torn up locking lug nuts than I care to count.

Several posters have implied you not hold your breath waiting for the police to help. Most folks just don't understand how the system works and that causes hard feelings toward police departments when they actually have done as much as they can legally do. I don't know how large a force is in place where you live, but most work basically the same way. A citizen calls the police with a complaint. Most times a patrol officer is dispatched to the scene for an initial investigation. Most situations are handled by the patrol officer at the scene, with any arrests, evidence collection, reports, etc. done by the officer during that shift. Some calls require follow up investigations. In these cases the officer takes an initial report and it is assigned to a detective (Keep in mind that detective is also handling several more cases.). The detective then follows up with conversations with the complainant, interviews of witnesses, examinations of evidence, etc. If a suspect is identified then a case is built against them and they are normally arrested. From that point on the case is in the hands of the court system. The only influence any police have on the case after that is their testimony in court. The police can expend hundreds of man hours tracking down a suspect and building an iron clad case only to watch helplessly as the prosecutor plea bargains the charge down to the lowest misdemeanor and probates the sentence, with virtually no conditions to the probation. Most defense attorneys are more than happy to agree to such deals and when a judge is greeted by a defense attorney and a prosecutor who have "worked things out" and saved that judge five minutes of listening to the merits of a case he is more than happy to "warn" the defendant not to do it again, and wish him a good day. But lest it sound like I think there are no lazy police, note that I also advised you to get the media involved if the police obviously blow you off.

I highly commend your patience and willingness to resist the urge to "bust some heads". I wish there were more folks like you. But the type of animals that commit acts such as this tend to prey upon those they perceive as weak or easy. It looks like you have an inner strength they have yet to see that won't let them win.

I was just wondering if they're hiring and how would I go about getting my wife a job there?

That is the funnyiest this I read on the site yet! :D

Seriously though, I agree with the attempted murder police stance, the high media stance, and the baseball bat stance. Unless it's happening to you, it isn't easy to decide. Maybe why decide, variety is the spice of life. :hide:

:hide: Jim i did not mean to disparage the police in my post, it may seem that i did, but i worked closely with the police for five years as a child abuse investigator for the state of arkansas,,,it is exactly as you say about the prosecutor and judges, it got so bad , cases getting off with a warning, no punishment what so ever, i had to quit, went to work for the government at the Air Force base, and what a difference, the OSI and security police was fantasktic(ms)they had more control over the military personnel than their civilian counterparts,

But i still hold in protecting my family and would go get the slap on the wrist the same way as the person trying to hurt my family..

It is as you say that the legal system sometime protects the guilty and when that happens , what do you do.

i had to quit working with the police because i got so sick and tired seeing how the system worked , apparently you had more staying power than i did. my hats off to you..

Mike, just wanted to add my support.

1), play by the rules. The habitual criminal will get the slap on the wrist and let out, you'll be the poor slob the judge decides to "make an example of". Remember the above post about "knowing the system". He does, you don't.

2) Police good, plant security, doubtful. Plant security is to protect the plant from the workers, they couldn't care less about the workers themselves.

3) Camera, OUTSTANDING! Too damn bad the innocent to have to go such lengths.

4) Letters to the editors can lead to some interesting results sometimes.......

:hide::omg:

About five seconds. :omg: It was only five clicks...

You can find them under the show all topic inside the clickable smilies box. :hide:

Jerrell, I wasn't trying to point fingers, just shed some light.

If you stomached five years working with child abusers YOU have more staying power than me. I would have wound up in the news.

Ain't that the truth.

There is the right way, the wrong way, and the way we'd REALLY like to do it.

It can be really tough sticking with the right way, although....

There is a guy at work whom pretty much no one likes. One day several months ago I lost it, told him EXACTLY what I thought of him. Loudly, colorfully, and in front of the boss no less. The individual still won't look me in the eye, much less talk to me. Everyone else shook my hand and said, "I've wanted to do that for YEARS!" Wasn't right, lucky I didn't get in trouble, but it sure did work! :hide:
