Smoking engine after oil change

Here's today's brain teaser. I bought a almost new DR Chipper from a fella a couple of years ago. The first owner left me me great maintenance notes. ( he was a millwright)  I've continued good record keeping and just after my second oil change I'm noticing smoke in the exhaust. I checked the oil before changing and it was good on the stick.  In checking thing out today I found a oily white foamy substance on the inside the paper air filter on the gasket.  It's Briggs 1100 series. 250 cc.

The white foam substance is condinsation,,, in the winter month almost all air cooled engines suffer from this,,,it is caused from the meatal engine changing temperatures so much faster than the air around them,, it is a natural phenomenom,, that unfortunatly we cant do anything about,, this is why it is so important to chamge your oil at the end of every season , winter to summer and vice versa, regardless of how many hours the oil has on it,, in example the cast iron block in a shed or small garage gets cold over night ,, then the sun comes up in the morning and because of the green house effect the air in the garage changes temperature rapidly while you engine block does not ,, hence causing condensation,,,hope this helps

That's the funny thing, I've had no oil smoke until I just changed the oil three days ago.  The plug is more than a little black and there is no adjusting screw for rich & lean. Only screw is for the governor.  That white oily stuff is coming out of a tube plugged in the valve cover. The air filter didn't look that bad. Guess I'll go into town and see the NAPA man. I'll try a new plug & filter so I'll  have a new starting point.

Is the engine venting properly ? Lift the dip stick out and start it up just hold your hand a cpl of inches abouve dip stick with a rage or something so ya dont make a mess,, sounds to me like you either have a stuck or cracked ring or the enginge isnt venting the crank case properly,,, just let it run a bit with dip stick out and give it enough time to clear up , and see of the smoke doesnt go away,,,cause if it clears up then it isnt ventimg and building up pressure in the crank and pushing oil up past the rings but i would hazard a guess its not venting ,, which that tube on the valve cover is most likely supposed to do clean and check all breathers on the engine..

   The vapor was coming out of the tube in a rhythm. A pulse. It had pressure.  Could be the head gasket.

is the engine have a oil pump ? Or is it splash ? If it is splash like my kohler than it wouldn't be the head gasket,,  because there is no oil in that area of the engine ,, unless it is passing by the rings like a worn or cracked ring ,, or a bad valve seal or guide if oil is pumped then yes that is a possibilty.. Now as far as i vapor coming out in a pulse that is from the piston coming back down it moves air both ways ,, and it is that air that it moves on the way down that should be vented so it doesnt build up pressure inside the engine... So without having it here in front of me thats all i got.. When the dipstick was out did you leave it out for a while and did the smoke start to clear up ?if so you need to find out where it is vented and clear the vent or vacum line possibly .. Good luck bud i hope you get it straight..maybe try a compresion leak down test..
