I am a mile north of the Indiana-Michigan line and we have gotten some lake effect over the weekend but you shouldn't run into any serious problems.

Michael

I live on the North side of Indy and Mentone is about another 2 hours North. The roads seem to be pretty good around here. Tickster lives a little closer to Mentone, maybe he can help you too. If you have time stop in and see me.

Michael, I'd be more worried about a little snow on the roads in Ky. than I would be about a few feet further north. Ky. doesn't have near the equipment to handle it nor the knowhow.

Hmm mentone is about an hour south west of me...not sure where that puts it in the lake effect snow area?

Roads in my area our slick but driveable.

The weathermans calling for rain here Tuesday...may be melting buy the time you come north.

Jim this is the only state ive seen total two brand new cop cars and a new plow truck in 4" of snow..

I handled a nearly 700 vehicle police fleet's accident repairs for 4 years. I've seen that many cruisers totaled in the same wreck, in a dusting of snow, more than once. Most of them were parked at wreck scenes when yet another nondriver would find out too late that you can't steer or stop on ice like you can dry pavement. My favorite was watching as a fire truck and an ambulance which were responding to a scene where several cars had slid off the road without hitting anything each hit a car and push them into another one as they tried to stop. There was no wreck until they got there.

Having worked a #%^tload of wrecks along the interstate through the years I noticed that a lot of northerners were shocked at just how slick a skim of snow could get around here. Seems that 1/4 inch of ice we usually have under the snow is something they're not used to.

hey jerrell,

the tires are 4.80-4.00-8 B.F Goodrich Silvertown. These tires do seem to give the nose a little rise. (seems to have some attitude! :hide:

Im not sure what kind of tractor these actually came on,,,if anyone knows please let me know

thanks

:hide: Hey michael, i guess i don't understand these tire numbers, and sizes the ones i have the numbers are 16x6.50x8 soneone told me that the 16 meant the tire was 16 in off the ground , or the height of the tire,, but yours look taller than mine?????????????

Hey TDB, i like attitued and want altitude// :D

Very likely original to THAT tractor Michael. All my round hoods have those same size front tires, and many are BF Goodrich Silvertowns. Silvertown is actually the name for the tread pattern, and raised rib on the sidewall. Silvertowns were standard equipment on a lot of automobiles in the late '50s up until radials took the market in the mid '70s. I had a set on my '65 T-bird at one time. Coker tire is remanufacturing Silvertowns but their sizes start with 10 inch rims. So close, yet so far away.

Jerrell, The 4.80 x 4 x 8 is 16 inches high but looks taller because it is only 4.80 inches wide. 4.80 inch width x 4 inch sidewall x 8 inch rim diameter.

:hide: Jim, that clears it up somewhat , so if you get a 4.80X4X8 is 16 in, can you get a 4.80X4X8 18 in or 20 in tall, that's what i'm after. i never bothered with tire sizes before this and always just replaced a tire with the same size , when i had to get a new one. :hide: i got 25 in on the back and want to raise the front..

speaking of snow and wrecks , did you hear on the news the other day, 4 cars slid off the road, no wrecks, just stuck, an ambulance and fire truck responded and could not stop and hit all four cars, thankfully no one was hurt :D
