RedRanger 1,469 #2 Posted February 19, 2016 I use to attend at least 2 races a year. Camped out and tailgated. Watched or listened on the radio each weekend. Looked forward to it all winter. Followed a half dozen drivers each season. Bought the damn die cast. Have a leather driver jacket hanging in my closet. I tried to watch the first duel last night, like watching paint dry. That sport died with Dale Earnhardt. France has been buring it ever since.

Back in the '70s and early '80s during "Speed Weeks" we would go to New Smyrna Speedway and out to Bithlow and watch Harry Gant, Dale Sr. Cale and the Allisons run in Late Model races with the local boys. They would hang around chatting with everyone in the pits, it was great. I'm not exuberant about the direction things have gone, but it is still the best entertainment on TV in my opinion.

AMC RULES 37,196 #5 Posted February 20, 2016 These were the days... when Nascar was fun to watch.
953 nut 59,889 #6 Posted February 20, 2016 Those Dodge Daytonas and Ford Talladegas were awesome, they had already been outlawed by the time I saw my first Daytona race in '76. Got to go now, the Camping World Truck race is starting!
squonk 43,774 #7 Posted February 20, 2016 Buddy was one of my favorites. I wonder if he was "tickeled to death" about that truck on the track during his run!
