Tire Chain and Wheel Weight Question

Recommended Posts

I have a 73 10 Automatic with the original rear wheels and tires.  What size tire chains and wheel weights do I need?

Thanks

Greg

I'll bet you have 23/8.5/12 rear tires but you should definitely verify that. So you need chains that say that on the package. I recommend 2 link chains, much better ride (comfort) and better traction than 4 link. Any brand of wheel weights for a 12" rim will fit. I have run Bolens, Sears etc....on my WH without any fitment issues.

If you pick up chains, be sure to get a pair of chain tensioners. The rubber bungee style work well.

WHX??

Check this site out http://www.tirechain.com/ They have about every size & type chain imaginable. Good prices & fast shipping.  Enter your tire size and they will tell you what chain will fit your tires. Be prepared for some custom fitting once you get them as they tend to run large which is better than too small. I got the 2 link spacing for better ride and did not need tensioners. I deflated the tires and fit them tight then reinflate to 10 psi, not going nowhere.

Heres a link to another thread on them http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/topic/61022-need-new-tire-chains/?page=1

I have a few sets from tirechain.com.

The Heavy duty 2-link v-bar chains are beastly!

They all ran big, and had to be cut down to fit.

WHX6 is giving good advice about installation.

Get them on tight with the tires deflated, then reinflate the tires for a nice tight fit.

If you dont get them tight, they will twist, and the v-bars will turn into the face of the tire instead of digging into the ice.
