Butch 194 #26 Posted December 11, 2008 I may be a little younger than most peeps on this forum, but I remember growing up with two 8-track tapes you could not pry from my hands. One was Three Dog Night and the other was Kenny Rogers Greatest hits. Even then I used to hate to have to smack that little track button to flip the songs around, and occasionally it would eat one of my tapes. In a weird way I miss that ole thing. I was born in 1969 but I remember playing that 8-track player until I was around 13 or 14. I got my first "boom" box that played cassette tapes in about the 8th grade...The first cassette tape I bought was, Tommy James and the Shondell's greatest hits... Now that was music! Good times! Ah TDN!! I had one of their 8 tracks and one of the tracks started out with "The Show Must Go On". Great song. In 1974 when I was stationed in Biloxi, MS a couple of us went to see them in concert in Mobile, Al. The concert had a 50's theme which seemed different at the time. I guess after going to a few Alice Cooper concerts then all other concerts would have seemed strange!!
charger10us 1 #27 Posted December 12, 2008 I still have some of my old 8-track players left. My am/fm/RCA quadriphonic stero. That one has been in alot of my old cars & trucks. The last truck it was in was the 1971 3/4 ton Ford. In that day driving around the back roads with a little more that just stock 390 under the hood & a 4-speed in one hand & a case of PBR on the seat & lissening to Hellter-Skellter's song Demonds & Wizzards with 4 of the 6x9 Jenson tri speakers . FLASHBACKS forgot what I was going to say!! And also I have the portable am/fm 8-track that I used to strap on the hood of the 1968 Charger10 & plug it into the cig. lighter & be jamming while mowing the yard or just crusing the streets of Boyce. The RCA 8-track is still hooked up in the building, & I listen to it now & then. Maybe it's the old bass sound, or driving (jumping ) over hills to fast & then it skips to the next track. Kinda miss them times, BUT I don't thing I'd be lucky enough to live through it the 2nd time! Billy in Va. :horseplay: :horseplay:
