How much snow do you need to plow?

How deep does the snow need to be for you to plow or snowblow? I guess I would need a foot. It doesnt really matter how deep and long as I can see some difference or just want to play. We never have enough to really snow me in.

I dont just plow to get my truck in and out of the driveway. My wife and I both have 4x4 vehicles. I need it to be safe for my wife and kids to walk on as well. I dont want a phone call at work telling me that one of em slipped and got hurt.

I plow most any depth for that reason with the plow.

The snow-blower however doesnt work well if its not deep snow. Seems to like 6" or more.

Mike......

I never thought about the safety aspect of it. I dont mind walking through a foot of snow and I to have a 4x4. Ill go over the sidewalks in I get more than a inch or so. We get letters all winter saying shovel your walk or your not getting your mail.

My work is seasonal...so when the snow hits the ground I go out to plow mostly to catch up on my tractor seat time.

But like Mike says...I'll skim off whatever there is on the walks to keep the ice off. I have a route I run down to the elementary school here & go around the block hitting the neighbors drives too.

I would plow if I had a couple inches. I've been running my truck around our circle drive for about 30 minutes after each good snow fall to pack it all down so people can get in and out. Then in a few days it's like a skating rink and since it doesn't get any sun it doesn't thaw until the Spring. But when I get the tractor done I'm gonna be out there once I can get the blade low enough to make contact with the snow. I don't think the Wheel Horse will be much good after the town comes through and blocks us in with a 3' bank.

I usually plow if there is 6" or more.

My wife reminded me why.

We got that 12"-14" of snow overnight last week.

We have a 350ft. long curved driveway. My wife drove out of here at 3:30am and apparently never found the driveway as I found a set of tire tracks that almost went in a straight line to the gate!! :hide:

I usually put flags out to mark the drive, but this year the snow beat me.

I also need to keep the drive from packing down to ice. Our drive is a little raised from the surrounding lawn and you can literally "fall off" and not be able to get back

on when it is icey.
