trowbri1 5 #1 Posted December 8, 2015 (edited) Update: I put the new starter in my gt14 and it started right up, however, the gear from the starter wouldn't release from the flywheel once it was started. I turned it off quick so I wouldnt burn up the starter. Any suggestions on how to fix this? Edited December 10, 2015 by trowbri1
oldredrider 2,553 #2 Posted December 8, 2015 Any big block starter (10-16hp) with the same mount will work. Count the teeth on the starter to be sure.

When you shut off the engine was the starter drive binding against the flywheel, if so you may have a bent mounting bracket and need to shim it to correct this.
trowbri1 5 #9 Posted December 10, 2015 Yes to both of your questions. Any recommendations on thickness of the shim to start with?
953 nut 60,240 #10 Posted December 10, 2015 It will be a bit of trial and error since we have no idea how far off it is, I would start by putting one washer on each bolt between the starter and the engine block and give it a try.
