HorseFixer

It has been a long haul, Have mad many improvements sorted thru tons of boxes of misc Items found may thing that I thought were lost or misplaced I have my Work Shop Area done, looks like I may have the room to work on a couple tractors. I wound up with a 15' X 20' open shop area after everything was cleaned up this should be enough room to move around in. I have the front area about completed but will need a few more days to get it completed. Here are some before and after pictures thus far.

:D

Can't believe I missed her.

I love those retractable hose reels... very handy. But they bring to mind one other question. Did they change the National gas code to allow compressed air in PVC pipe? :hide:

No Jim I did! :hide: I don't recall OSHA nor the national gas code donating nor otherwise contributing anything to THE DUKES self preservation fund so their laws dont apply to me! :D

Seriously I realize its not approved. However 1/2 Schedual 40 PVC is rated at 358 lbs max pressure and burst pressure rating is 1910 psi. Its been installed now since 1990 I think the same year a lexington, ky police officer gave me a ticket for speeding on my way to TN. <_< 1/2 hr later had a blowout on my left rear tire in the van I was driving! I patronized yer state very well that night :hide: very much :D The morrow of the story, You will have a better chance of getting a ticket in lexington and blowing a tire than blowing out yer PVC pipe! :omg:

The good thing about that trip? Bagged an 8 pt and a spike on that trip!

Schedule 40 becomes hard and brittle over time especially with freezing temperatures. It can explode like a hand grenade sending plastic shrapnel

everywhere. If you have a lubricating oil running through your system that will weaken the pipe. I started to go the PVC route but got worried about the possibility of it exploding. So I just made a manifold system next to my compressor with black pipe and have 150" of hose. I never use eye and ear protection like a dummy but I do have my limitations when it comes to flying shrapnel. :hide:

PVC PRESSURE RATINGS

Speeding ticket in Lex. in '90? I thought ya looked familiar! :D

Blowout a half hour later? Seeeeee..... I tried to tell ya them tires weren't speed rated! :hide:

Just kidding, I worked the night shift mostly away from the interstate. :D

But that is a good analogy of what can happen with that plastic pipe for compressed air. Non speed rated tires can overheat and blowout after running a while at high speeds 'cause they aren't designed for that. PVC can blow up after being exposed to pressurized air 'cause it isn't designed for it.

Those pressure ratings are for fluid, not gas. Fluids don't compress the way gasses do and any pressure is relieved almost instantly when a leak occurs so thy don't pose the same risks as gasses if a pipe breaks. They flow from a leak in a stream and unless a fragment is PERFECTLY positioned it will be pushed aside by that stream and do little if any damage. Gasses on the other hand compress. Which means they have pressure on them until they expand in all directions to an uncompressed state when they encounter a leak, taking small fragments of pipe with them. I know that with you being a pipefitter you already knew that.

I've seen examples of PVC used as air lines where it lasted for years with no problems. But I've also seen folks picking shards of it out of their faces when the stuff gives out. B)

Not pickin' on ya by any means, just concerned for a brother's safety. B)

And that shop of yours? :D

Amsoil is the only thing I have used for 10 years. I have 3 wall cabinets full of Amsoil greases and oil. But the grease is the best. It stays in the grease gun and doesn't ooze out. It was annoying to pick up a grease gun and have melted grease :hide: everywhere. :D Amsoil does not leak and I like the color! :hide:
