Pullstart 66,776 #54 Posted November 8, 2015 I bet it was nice to have Elmo's help, eh? Good memories for the kiddos and something small enough that it's not intimidating.
WNYPCRepair 1,923 #55 Posted November 8, 2015 @shallowwatersailor " Kohler does sell an access panel kit that you can install to gain access for cleaning without removing the engine. It needs to come out though to install the kit"I've searched for the kit with no luck, you don't happen to have a link, do you?
shallowwatersailor 3,214 #56 Posted November 8, 2015 Here is the link for the accessories catalog. The correct name is "Blower Housing Clean Out Panels" and are on page 18. Part # 25 755 20-Shttp://www.kohlerengines.com/accessories/landing.htmKohler made it a bit difficult as there are internal baffles within the Blower Housing. Here is a photo of an engine with them installed and the panels themselves. A template to cut the hole is included.

Brian01 481 #61 Posted November 9, 2015 Access panels seems to me, that wouldn't help much, and a pain to put on. Looks to me like you couldn't really get to much, just being able to open up the ends.
slammer302 2,156 #62 Posted November 9, 2015 I think they would help so you can take the water hose or air blower to it but if you really want to get it good and clean i would think you still need to pull the whole cover off but i could be wrong and i know its a pain to pull the whole engine but i was able to get it clean and give everything a good inspection
JERSEYHAWG / Glenn 4,499 #63 Posted November 9, 2015 I bought those access panels last year, never pulled the motor, the mord I look at it and study it I am starting to wonder if its worth it or not. Like posted before me,,what can yoh actually get to? I wish there was a better idea cause I bet I have a ton of minute grass clippings in there. Dam man .. oh, By the way slammer, good job, but ck on that filter, make sure those micro openings will give the right amount of juice Flow, dont want to see you Cook something after doing a great job.Glenn

JERSEYHAWG / Glenn 4,499 #67 Posted November 9, 2015 (edited) zzzzzzzzzz,,,,tell me more....what is the "correct" micro openings rating?....maybe I need to read the manual??? thats maybe something to find out. Maybe? The only reason I posted that is when I first joined some guy did a oil and filter change on his trans, cooked the eaton 1100. He specifically stated getting the wrong filter did it, when he checked the filter openings were to small and starved the trans of proper lubrication. That burned into my mind. I only get the factory recommended filters. These tractors are to pricey to cook. But, its a free world to do what you want, just sayin is all.Glenn FILTER MEDIA Filter media can be made of cellulose or fibrous materials, or synthetic materials designed especially for this purpose. Media in an engine's primary filters pull out particles as small as 25 to 30 microns (a typical average human hair is about 45 to 70 microns in diameters). Secondary filters do better - down to 5 or 10 microns - but also add restriction to the flow Edited November 9, 2015 by JERSEYHAWG / Glenn

RMCIII 838 #70 Posted November 9, 2015 Cleaned up really nice. There are sometimes when I wished I would have kept my 518, but when I am reminded that the engine needs to come out, to keep the back fins clean, I then come back to reality. It's not that I am not mechanically inclined, it's the space and tools. After the purchase of the Sovereign 18, I wonder why Toro did not give the back side of the engine more room to keep the fins cleaned out? The Simplicity is simple, just take a little wand and attach to air compressor, blow out the fins.RC

shallowwatersailor 3,214 #74 Posted November 9, 2015 Access panels seems to me, that wouldn't help much, and a pain to put on. Looks to me like you couldn't really get to much, just being able to open up the ends. Panels are easy as they sit on the ridge of the blower housing. I used thumb screws with hex heads. The problem is the left cylinder from the driver's seat. There is a baffle in the way that blocks access from the top. It gets the airflow first so all of the fine particles collect there, especially if it is oily. The access panel allows you go straight in.The Simplicity Legacy is even worse. The engine HAS to come out because the back is right up against the firewall.
Snowmobileaddict 403 #75 Posted November 10, 2015 All the factory belts cross reference to standard off the shelf ones that are like $10-15 bucks each I'll send you a chart with the generic belt numbers. Been using blue kevar ones for years and they run great.toro selling a 12 dollar belt for 50 is a joke
