Very nice cover but not sure I would call it better than the original, maybe as good though. I will give them credit for doing a cover as it was written unlike so many do. Nice find. :hide:

The original Simple Man.

An exception that cover songs shouldnt change from the original is Johnny Cash and Hurt.

Johnny Cash version

Nine Inch Nails version

Took a while but thought of another good cover I couldnt remember the name of.

Turn the Page Metallica

Bob Seger - Turn the Page

Did I mention that I spend way to much time listening to music on Youtube :D

I would have to say that I think the Shinedown and the Lynyrd Skynyrd are about equal in goodness..... :D

AND, I absolutely LOVE the Johnny Cash version of "hurt".... It is HANDS DOWN better than the NIN version. :hide:

I agree Duke!

Unless, of course you bring the master back to his craft. This isn't actually a cover I don't guess, but a remake. The audience doesn't know what they are listening to for well over a full minute, but they know they love it. And listen to the response when they do recognize the tune.

I prefer this version of "Simple man" myself.

Jim, that's one KILLER remake of Hotel California. WOW!!!!!! :hide:

I've played that song with a number of bands (I'm a bass player) and it's one of the toughest out there to cover effectively. This particular arrangement is amazing!!!!

Thanks for sharing!

:D

And Happy Thanksgiving!

Duff, That's the version they played live in their reunion tour. It's on the album "Hell freezes over."

What I think is one of the greatest covers of all time. First the cover, then the original by the writer of the song.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUzjPBPRq9c

How many of you knew that her version was a cover of his song?

But lest anyone thinks I don't appreciate GOOD rock 'n' roll, a couple of my favorites.

And, the greatest musician I've ever heard (Along with some friends.).

Just in case anybody's wondering, Yes I have been in a pursuit while this was playing on my cruiser's stereo. The dispatchers thought it was so funny they saved the tape.

The tape just has a few transmissions on it but if you're listening you can hear Earl cuttin' down in the background. It was pure luck that it was playing when I lit up a car and he decided to try running. I wish I had gotten a copy of it.

This song was used in a chase scene in the movie "The legend of Bonnie and Clyde" It was the "b" side of the 45 rpm release with Merle Haggard's theme song on the "A" side. That reintroduced bluegrass to a new generation.

I saw Dr. Stanley a few times when I was a kid, but back then it wasn't so special to me. Here's one of him rolling. It's one of the few tunes I can pick (Just not quiet as fast as he does.).

Duke, It's funny you brought up Alison Krauss. Dr. Stanley was part of her "Down from the mountain" tour to kick off the movie "O brother where art thou?". The tour started right here in Lexington, before the movie came out. It didn't draw much of a crowd. After the movie they did a second tour and sold out two shows here. That's almost unheard of.

The video you posted of her is....WOW! Was that backlighting made for her? Or was she made for the backlighting? :D
