squonk 39,123 #3 Posted September 26, 2015 (edited) Now just throw them back in the bucket.! I used to have a SOMEWHAT SMALLER pile. got rid of most of them and went to TSC and got the auto rewind straps. Half the mess, they work great and now my dozen straps fit in my trailer box! Aren't those giant "cupholders" handy on the tailgate liners Mike? Edited September 26, 2015 by squonk

KC9KAS 4,741 #8 Posted September 26, 2015 I took an old GT tire inner-tube and cut it into "rubber bands" to put on my ratchet straps after I roll them up. Who does what? Like collect things? I collect bills.I have the water bill, gas bill, electric bill and phone bill all on the bar right now!

AMC RULES 36,961 #13 Posted September 26, 2015 When you were done... did you put 'em back in the bucket Mike?
Sparky-(Admin) 19,674 #14 Posted September 27, 2015 Yes sort of....the straps are all in a bucket of their own and the bungee's are in a separate bucket. They were one big nasty knot when they shared the same bucket. I would pull on one strap and the entire pile of straps and bungee's would come out!Mike..........

elcamino/wheelhorse 9,113 #17 Posted September 27, 2015 (edited) 5 gallon buckets also make great tool boxes, especially when the Horse breaks down a great distance from the shop. Has anyone purchase a car, truck or boat cover and gotten the cover in the bag that is provided by the manufacturer ? At least that's what I tell my wife, only tractors and flashlights....but she saw me cleaning up a mess in the garage today and asked if I was a strap collector .I converted this nasty pile to a neat organized pile.....and found my jumper cables in it as well!Mike......... How much copper wire did you use to tie the straps? Edited September 27, 2015 by elcamino/wheelhorse
JC 1965 1,528 #18 Posted September 27, 2015 I'm no expert but that looks like a strap collection to me.
bmsgaffer 2,043 #19 Posted October 1, 2015 It was just a pile of straps until you put them in hue-sequence (ROYGBIV) color-coded order... THAT'S when it became a problem--i mean-- collection...
squonk 39,123 #20 Posted October 1, 2015 I could see you trying to jump start your truck in the dark with a ratchet strap!
PaulC 341 #21 Posted October 2, 2015 I second the Ziploc bags like moparfan. I once spent the time to wind them up nicely like you and once you use it its such a pita to stand there and coil it all up again. I now just throw 2 each into 1 gallon storage bags and find it much easier. But at least you have the picture to hold onto of them all nice and neat!

Picked this one up in a store about 20 miles from me that I never knew existed, called Rustology ( http://rustologyantiques.com/index.html ) My wife spotted it on a shelf behind some crappy trinkets . Its a Delta lantern, I think its about 1950's vintage, they made this style since 1933 with subtle changes over the years. I managed to get the front light to work but the selector switch is froze up (some dope left the big ol' 6 volt battery in it and of course there was leakage !). Still in nice shape for being 60ish years old. Mike......
