I own a 300 and 3 C's but would you please share your thoughts and reasons for your preference of Cs over the 300 series?

Well i've been hard at it today working on the C121 first thing i did was make sure it ran good sense the gastank was no good i hooked up the gas line from the B-60 to it and jumper cables from the truck I know this looks kinda bad but it worked and the the C-121 started up and ran great i had to oil a few things up sense it had been sitting for so long. I took a chance when buying this not knowing if anything was good but so far im happy!

I got the gastank switched out and new gas line put on too and got to ride it around the yard its a pretty sweet ride and the deck is nice and quite but needs a new pto belt the one on it is way to wide and rubs everywhere. Just need to change the oils and give it a better cleaning

I love the 12 hp Kohler.  There is nothing like taking an old tired and abused old WH and getting then started with just a little bit of work.  I owe those feelings to Mr McClusky my 9th grade small engine repair teacher and the Pond family.

Yeah it's amazing how something so simple goes wrong on one and instead of taking a few minutes or hrs to fix it, they just get rid of it...

I went yesterday and bought a rear tine tiller  5 riding mowers 7 push mowers and 8 weedeaters for $75. lol no WH's but hey I already sold the tiller and 2 push mowers for $75...and if nothing else, I can junk them out n at least double my $$.

Well Dennis, It's just the sheet metal. For me I like the looks of a C a bit better and definitely the real hood latch. Some 300's have 6" front wheels and I don't care for the looks of them. Other than that there's really no difference.

I think the older C's are just built better. not as flimsy with the sheet metal. Better paint quality. I've seen C's left outside and the paint fades and they rust some. Leave a 3-500 series outside and they rot out and paint comes off in sheets.

Very true. That's what I meant by sheet metal. By 'no difference' I'm meaning the frame, tranny, etc. as long as you're comparing apples to apples (4 pinion vs 4, 8 vs 8)

the only I did not like was the cradle system on the later c`s. I had a c141 that had this I found the cradle rob a lot of power, rather than a bolt in Kohler.      Sorry an old P/Bucket pic  Click on it to enlarge.th_Roxi1-11025.jpg

I forgot about that Craig. This is my 76 that I bought new, sold in 2000 when we moved here and stumbled on to it again a short time ago. This was taken at the current owners place. You can see the patch in that spot. I don't remember when I did that but at least it held up well. I attributed the problem partially to never using the assist spring with the tiller or snow blower. :confusion-shrug:

I don't know what exact model Craig pictured but on the hydro lift models, raising the lift all the way up the mower bar hits the steering support. Then either the support breaks or the whole machine will twist. My C-160 Auto does this. If I raise the lift with the hood open it won't shut right. Lot's of power in hydraulics
