HorseFixer 2,013 #1 Posted November 21, 2008 To complete my shop I have been wanting a shop press for quite along time, and with these rebuilds and so forth and getting steering wheels off from what I have read that seems like that is the best way. Many times I need to bend tubing and steel and will use it for that purpose also. So what do you guys have and reccomend Tonnage wise and make and model? A Frame -VS- H Frame? Give the Ole' Duke the skinney! :hide:
KyBlue 655 #2 Posted November 21, 2008 id go for a H frame, Not hard to make ... just a suggestion, get you a air over hyd. Jack to work the whole apparatus ... much better/faster than jacking that little handle up/down up/down etc etc

But I dunno by the time I buy all the steel, jack and Bolts, springs and things if I wouldnt be better off just buying one? So common you guys give me some ideas links and things :D
illinilefttackle 399 #4 Posted November 21, 2008 :hide: Duke- not being a big spender, I had a 20 ton shop press in my auto shop for years. Believe it or not I bought it from Harbor Freight back before they had any stores. It did everything I asked it to-sold it with the business, still working I bet.-AL
KyBlue 655 #5 Posted November 21, 2008 Duke - Cheaper or no ... itll be over built and you know its made in the states as opposed to China or Mexico.. Ive seen some of the cheaper ones bend and such .... poor design, cheap metal... you get the idea.. I bet you could goto your local steel supplier, dig thru their drop pile and get what metal you need for next to nothing the most pricey thing would be the air/over jack ... I dont like buying CHIWANEESE stuff no better than the next guy, but I dont have the time "ALL THINGS CONSIDERED" to spend a couple weeks and build a press. My time is presiouse and I have a 701 and others calling my name that are "ON DECK" for a restore, and have alot of work before that happens with garage clean up and stable work thats on my plate! So here are pics of my press area! I got the 20 Ton Jobbie
