54 inch Snowplow Wearbar

Recommended Posts

Lane Ranger

I recall a member on Red Square was making 42 inch wearbars for snow plows  ( I think I bought one or two) but I do not recall anyone making 54 inch plow wearbars or cutting edge as some may call it.    Anyone know a source for a new one of these?    I see some snowplow supply companies will make synthetic material wearbars to order but I would like to get a metal one.    May have to make my own !

I believe the original part number was  #3087  but no longer available tru  Toro according to Partstree.com website.

Anybody near you build those custom sno-pushers for loaders Lane? They could cut you any length you need.

Check with a local metal fabricator. I deal with a shop that sells cut lengts by the pound. Comes out to about 1/2 of retail store short length prices. They also have a better selection and will make cuts if you want.

I found a family owned steel business that makes sno-pushers near me that said to bring in the wearbar from the 54 inch Wheel Horse plow and they could make a rubber/composite wearbar or steel bar  when they had the bolt pattern setup.   Not sure of cost but I am going to check it out.  Thanks for the suggestions !

Ok  folks this is what we are going to be using (at least my brother David will be using it)  for a wearbar on the 54 inch snowplow  I bought from a member in Bel Air, Maryland.  I took the suggestion to find a company that fabricated snowpushers.     I called and spoke to the company and they said they thought they could help make what I needed using rubber composite like they use on parking lot snow pushers.   I took the old 54 inch wearbar  to use as a pattern for the holes.   They  cut slots in the rubber (which is 1 inch thick by the way) and made a meatal cover plate with 3/8th inch holes drilled to hold the rubber wearbar on the front of the  54 inch Wheel Horse snowplow.    The wearbar is 6 inches high -about twice what I think I needed but it can be turned over and slid up and down if it wears very much.  The snowpusher company folks told me this wearbar will last a very long time.   We will see but I was impressed that they did all this in two days.   I paid $111.95 for this but I always wanted to see if this composite material might work on one of these snowplows  for a wearbar.   I guess we will get to find out this winter.   I will keep Red Square posted.

I made a post about this once before but it might help someone as much as it helped me, I'm in southwest Michigan and I went to ALRO steel in my area and bought a piece of of ( I think ) 3 inch by 1/4 , had them cut it to length for 50c or 1.00 and then they punched the square holes for the stove bolts for a dollar a hole. it worked great and think it all cost about 12.00 to 15.00 dollars

:jaw:  THAT is a wear bar!

I look forward to your report on how well it works and wears, I too have been curious about the plastic or rubber materials.

I put a composite wear bar on my blade last season.  Works great and doesn't scratch my black top.

Drill your own holes.

Red Ranger:  Thanks for the info.   I would prefer to see it 3 inches high but the one I got was six.    Sounds like you had good luck with it.   My brother is going to be using this real close to you in Calumet Township -where you get those real winter snows!

I used it all winter.  Worked as good as, or better than, a steel cutting edge.  Very hard material, yet slides like a plastic.  Drills like steel.
No noise.  No scratches on the sealcoat.  On a smooth blacktop drive, I'd bet it would last 20 years or longer.  I also plow about 200 feet of brushed concrete sidewalk which I noticed files it down some.
I'm guessing I'll get about 3-4 years of use before I need to flip or replace it.

Had a fresh coating on the drive last fall before winter and in the spring, you could not tell it was ever plowed.  A lot of commercial snow removal companies are going to this stuff for their trucks.  :handgestures-thumbupright:

We sometimes get real winters, lately not so much though.
