Another media blast cabinet

NCM_0110.thumb.JPG.db6ed44f1987416a19e8eI finally got started on my media blast cabinet. I'm building it out of 1/8 plate. These panels are like our wheel horses very old and built to last. The panels I've used so far are from a 2500 amp switboard. When finished it will have all welded seams. It's  44.5 wide  33.5 deep and 30 high. I'm thinking 15 x 30 for the window. Holes are marked just not cut. It will also be on casters.NCM_0114.thumb.JPG.cd06c64232bbeaadb12d6NCM_0111.thumb.JPG.fdbc6e6ba8b43ac81d895 NCM_0109.thumb.JPG.203490e8f24129f7749e8

The top is welded. The bottom is tacked and the legs are started.

I have cut all the plate with a skill saw and abrasive blade. The angle was cut with a port-a-band saw. I have a plasma cutter ordered so  I hope I'll be cutting the holes with that.
That may get interesting because I have never used one before. I have plenty of welding to do while im awaiting its arrival.
I figured it was a good time to get the casters bolted on.

:woohoo:                         Looking good, I presume the vent holes in the back will be used for the dust collector hook up.                  :text-coolphotos:

15x30 should work well for window.

depends on what you plan to use.

On my modified HF I use regular 1/8 inch glass pains and when heavily etched just replace. It runs me 5 bucks and I get 3-4 weeks use. It's convenient as the 24 inches works out to half the larger sheet so I pay for less to no wasted glass when they cut it for me.

The vent holes were already in the plate. I will probably try to utilize them. As for the window I'm going to use lexan. I have about 25 sheets  I took out of some 2x4 gym fixture lenses. The lighting vendor sent the wrong size and did not want them back.
I read a post where somebody put a brass screen overover over the window to help protect it. I have never used a blast cabinet. I am building this one from information I have gathered from others.

I finally had a little time in the shop and made a little progress. I got the door actuator installed and working  I already had the box with the switches, I will cover the two holes in the switch panel later.
The window frame is tacked in and ready to be welded. I hope this video works. If it doesn't will somebody please tell me how to post videos. Thanks.

Best way to do videos is to post them on youtube (free account!). You can set them to "hidden" or "unlisted" if you only want us (or anyone you give the link to) to see it or "public" for all to see. Just don't set it as "private".

YOu just have to change your video setting to "Public" or "unlisted"/"hidden" (i forget what words they use now).

Here- Go to your video page, click the pencil:

Then mid way down on the right, select the drop down box and click either "unlisted" or "public":

Then, dont forget to "SAVE CHANGES"! :handgestures-thumbupright:

I got a new toy so cutting the holes and the window was much easier. Should have bought one years ago.

I made a little progress this weekend. I dug out my little  homemade sheet metal bender and fabricated a fan housing and mounting bracket.
Then I made the frame for the media drain door and tacked it in place.
I mounted the bin vibrator. Welded the window frame in and started grinding. Couldn't finish grinding because I forgot to pick up another disk.

I got my led lamps today. I had to hook them up for a test. I have to install heat sinks before I run them very long. Here is a preview. The tool box is 4' away.NCM_0183.thumb.JPG.c53f051bdb49b24103926NCM_0182.thumb.JPG.f01e9255a4bbbea4850ddNCM_0181.thumb.JPG.e5ab908d2cb79c6b82843

I finally got to try the pressurized pot in the cabinet. Lights worked good. The exhaust system kept the cabinet clear for short periods anyway. I only had one compressor connected for the test run. The real test will be when adequate air supply for continuous blasting. I have to fix pictures tomorrow when I get to a computer.
