416H Hood Stand Help

Recommended Posts

SgtBob

Looking for some help.  I just bought a 416H and the rear tabs on the hood stand are broke off.  The fender bracket has nothing to attach to.  Is there an easy and secure fix or do I need to replace the hood stand.  If it need to be replaced is there anyone out there with a spare hood stand ?

Possibly two pieces of flatbar, 1//8" thick drilled and attached over the broken pieces. Could be tack welded or use flat head bolts, short, to attach the flatbar steel.

This happened on my 520H. I took it to the local weld shop without the fender pan and seat. They squared up the tear and rebuild the ends. Worked great.

Thanks,

Yup, very common.   A welder is your best friend.

Having no access to a welder I may try Tankmans idea and try a piece of flat bar.  After reviewing the above attached thread I guess this is more common than I thought.

I had a similar situation on an older 520H.  My solution was to use two 1 1/2" ANGLE IRON rails (instead of flat bar stock) approx. cut to about 6" length.  Drill a bolt hole in the end to approximate where the original seat-pan bracket would mount.  Given that, hold the rail UNDER the original side angle and mark the location hole(s) of the hoodstand for the shift plate and/or other mounting holes.  Also mark for the cut-away of the trans engagement lever.
Once the replacement angle iron(s) was bolted solidly to the hoodstand, use a thick washer to space the area where your hoodstand is broken away, just to make it level for the cross brace to bolt to.  No welding required and pretty much out-of-sight....
Sure wish I'd have kept pics of the repair I made...would make it simple to explain.

I have a tunnel that I paid WAY too much for that im not going to use. Its not perfect but the tabs are all there and the rest is in good shape. The tabs are showing signs of stress, but I could weld them up before I ship it to ya. I will sell it at a fair price.

PM me if you want pictures.
