motox25 36 #1 Posted July 19, 2015 A lot of the 60" decks I see for sale are missing the side discharge chutes. Do you guys that have 60" decks run them with or without the chutes? Mine came with a chute and that thing bounces and rattles the entire time I'm mowing. After looking at the parts schematic I found I was missing a couple of springs on the chute. I bought the missing springs and installed them the only way I could see possible but they don't seem to do much to fix my problem, do I have them on wrong? gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,510 #2 Posted July 20, 2015 There is a good illustration on page 4 of this manual http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/files/file/2160-mower-rotary-60in-sd-1997-1998-78390-om-3318-950pdf/Garry
motox25 36 #3 Posted July 20, 2015 Garry, thank you, that is exactly what I was looking for! I was unable to tell looking at the manual for my deck how it goes together. I'm sure people had fun putting those on back in the day, I gave up for tonight after 30 minutes of trying to compress the spring and slide the bolt through. WNYPCRepair 1,923 #4 Posted July 20, 2015 (edited) I haven't even looked at mine, I'm not sure if it has springs or not. I'm not sure I will put it on, the beast is wide enough already. Although I bet it would sling a rock a long way without the deflector. Edited July 20, 2015 by WNYPCRepair
motox25 36 #5 Posted July 21, 2015 Well after 2 hours of fighting I finally got the springs on. And they made it look so easy in the manual Now I can see why I haven't seen a single deck with those springs on! Thanks again Garry!
edwroy 138 #6 Posted July 23, 2015 I have two 520H's with 60 inch decks. One I removed the chute. The second one - a well placed bungee cord keeps it's up out of the way and no rattles.Edwroy
motox25 36 #7 Posted July 23, 2015 It might just be my imagination but I tried mowing with the discharge chute off and it actually seems to evenly spread the grass better with the chute on which is the opposite of what I've heard.
cheesegrader 433 #8 Posted July 24, 2015 I have one with and one without.I don't like the deflector. Even with the springs on, it flops about. It sticks out so far on the right side that it makes it impossible to mow near trees, sheds, etc....I agree that the clippings spread better without the deflector. I only keep it so that when I die, and my family builds a WheelHorse museum in my honor, there is at least one example of a complete deck.
