Tecumseh H25 block questions.

Recommended Posts

Kelsey

I've been tinkering with a mini bike Tecumseh H25. The carb has been rebuilt,
gas tank cleaned, new fuel line along with the Briggs red fuel filter. These parts
are staged and ready to go. The block has been cleaned and the internals have
been removed because of the oil seals and side cover gasket were leaking. I'll clean the
valves and replace the other gaskets as I go along. This Tecumseh is ~ 40 years old.
The oil was in terrible condition and I found a few small piece of metal. The cylinder
isn't scored but the bottom of the piston does have a small piece missing so this is
where the metal came from. The connecting rod felt a little loose on the crank but its
not real sloppy. The crank is scored ever so slightly. I'm thinking of just replacing the
piston, rings and connecting rod.
Without putting too much money in it, what advice do you have?

You cant make a decision on what parts to replace until you get some good measurements on the parts you have.  If you cant measure the parts yourself, take them to a machineshop and get them to measure them for you.

Techkys seem to suffer from rod - to - crank failures.  If the rod is loose, the crank is in need of a regrind.
