Here is a link to a huge EBay scam over on Garage Journal http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/s...d.php?t=294389 It involves Miller 211 Mig welders at a too good to be true price. The progression of emotions over the thread is amazing! Be careful out there kids....it's a scary world we live in!!! P.S. I almost pulled the trigger on one myself.icon_redface.gif

There are over 40 pages (842+ entries) here, just look at a few of the first pages then the last few pages:  "A $1200+ Welder selling for only $600 on eBay, done by a very professional scammer and even with tracking numbers, then days later Fed Ex delivered small envelopes with a single piece of blank paper wadded up inside."  . . . was very very interesting reading for me, most of the buyers thought they really checked into everything carefully, at first suspecting a scam then made this big purchase, also discussion about eBay and PayPals rules and what they do and don't do.   Glen Pettit

A summary:

Monday OP (Canada) posted a link to an eBay auction selling Miller 211's for $795 or make offer. Some offers as low as $600 were accepted. There were about 13 welders available in the auction.
When that auction ended, there was another. And another. And another. And another. By the time it was all over the eBay seller had sold about 200 welders for between $600 and $700. He also had a handful of Hypertherm 45's and Miller 625 plasma cutters that were going for $1000.

eBay seller is in Canada and offered free shipping to the USA. Many people got FedEx tracking numbers, some tracking numbers showed progress, others didn't. The shipping weights reported in the tracking were inconsistent with the Miller published shipping weight.
Seller responded to eBay messages quickly, but his answers didn't alleviate people's concerns about where the welders came from, why they were so cheap and details regarding shipping.

A couple days ago the seller caught 4 negative feedbacks dating to just before this tread appeared. Then the auctions ended and he made his feedback private.
All along the way GJ's were speculating on the sellers intentions. There were calls and emails to
eBay, Paypal, FedEx and even Miller.
No welders have landed in anyone's hands yet so the speculation continues.

Reminds of the occasional listing on CL for SCUT tractors for $3,000. From a dealer!

RedRanger

Amazes me that people fall for these things.
My pappy taught me that if it seems too good to be true, it most likely is.

Caveat Emptor folks.

Never trust car salesmen, politicians, or prices too low to be real.
