1989 520HC & a 42" SD Deck

Recommended Posts

Mike's 520HC

I have a 520HC and a 42" side discharge deck.  I know WH says they can't be used together.  Anyway I can use them together?  Extend out the rear deck wheels?  I don't want to buy another deck as I sold the 60" that came with the tractor.
Thanks in advance.

I would think the rear wheel size would be your only possible issue. I know I've seen 42" decks on the 518 which is basically the same tractor without the swept front axle.

The guage wheels of the deck bang into the rear wheels / tires of the tractor, cause the tires are 10.5 or wider.  I'd thin you could 1) mount smaller 8.5 or 9.5 tires/wheels onto the 520HC or....  2) take the gauge wheels AND AXLE off of the 42" deck and replace it with a gauge wheel axle setup from a 48" wide deck.  The gauge wheels on the 48" deck are set wider than on a 42" deck and should clear the rear tires of the tractor.  You MAY have to mod the gauge wheel axle clamps on the deck to accommodate a wider axle, but it seems to me that this would work.
Just a thought or two.

I have an 88' 520HC and have been using a 42" RD deck with no issues. The side discharge can be used but the rear wheels will hit the deck rear wheels every once in a while making hard turns.

Thanks guys.  It might be better to just change out the rear wheels.  I'll modify the left rear deck wheel for a temp. fix then either locate rear wheel assemblies or step up to a 48.

Move the gauge wheels forward about 2". Drill new holes for gauge wheels. That's what I did. It's works great.

The wheel is still rubbing against the tire. Just a little bit. I picked up a longer gauge wheel bolt. I'll post some pictures soon

I haven't tried it yet. It should work fine.
